Want: Mister Freedom for J. Crew Deck Coat

This looks like a great coat. With Mister Freedom's attention to details and great taste in reproductions combining with J. Crew's money to pretty much make anything at this point, how could the result not be good? I personally really would love to own this coat. It would be great all year round in Canada, look amazing with everything, I'm sure it fits awesome and I love all of the details. I'm always a big fan of the navy influenced pieces and this is no different. In fact this makes me even more a fan. I am tempted to buy this coat and walk to docks looking for a job at sea (to pay for it at $850). But then who would blog?  J. Crew has been doing a lot of good things lately, you can add this to the list. The only problem besides the price is that it's only available at the J. Crew Liquor store for men, and you'll have to deal with the unfriendly, arrogant service.

Hmm, ive had nothing but great service the handful of times I've been there.

What happened in particular?

Has anyone told the manger or higher-up about the claims of arrogant service? People talk/complain/blog about bad service but how are things to change if no one gets called on it to the people in charge? Or are the PIC the douchebags?

I was thinking about writing an email...

The guys there just weren't helpful at all, and when I made a joke about the Liquor store being the only shop not on sale, they basically told me to get out of there and go to the department store for sales (maybe they just don't have a sense of humor). There were some other comments, and they also were dicks to an older gentlemen who was there at the same time.

...I mean it's not they are there to help and service people or anything...

Store looked great though.

agreed. the service there is awful. and i get that it's a charming space, but it's just poorly laid-out and lit for retail.

douchebags is such a wanky term

Mr Freedom strikes again

It's J Crew. Let's not forget that. Dress it up in a fancy boutique style space, and fill it out with limited edition high priced collabs all you want, but it's still made in china (probably) and still a huge retail giant.

Now sure I have plenty of J Crew in the closet, but the Liquor Store and their more recent attempts to sneak into a Boutique Style market is just kind of lame.

The jacket looks awesome, but I won't be giving J Crew nearly a grand for anything.

I'm not surprised that the service in the Liquor Store was terrible. Again: It's J Fucking Crew.

Robbo, I don't know what "wanky" means but if it's loosely defined as "my favorite catch-all phrase for those who purposely go out of their way to be taint lickers" then, yes, it's wanky.

i actually remember them boasting how none of them have EVER worked for jcrew before...and that jcrew purposefully wanted a crew that wasnt previously associated with the store

Two things...

The arrogance on the part of J Crew to boast that only "7 of these were made" exceeds obnoxious. Self Edge has, as quoted from Superfuture, sold "more than ten of these" already and has been very supportive of Mr. Freedom. I'm just surprised that they get away with making such a bold claim.

There's the coat on Self Edge's site (cheaper, but sold out aside from one remaining 36). Regardless, great piece of work with few, fortunate owners.

I was recently in the Liquor Shop in Tribeca and found the employees to be quite helpful. Perhaps headquarters took care of the pompous few. Lets not forget, don't get angry, it is a J Crew shop, not Tom Browne's personal store. The employees think their hot shit but they are truly little more than Homo's that work in the mall. This coat looks good tho... probably because J Crew didn't actually make it. They need someone else to make their quality pieces. I personally know the man who started the preppy designing look there and he has no respect for the company after having designed for them. They need to start heading in one direction but instead, they're all over the place.

Yeah, I was in there yesterday and the guys were pretty girl. I have had time when I've gone in their before and the sales asscociates acted like I worked for them.

I was only in there a couple times within their first couple months of being open and the service, overall, was good. They did seem to be out sync, which you can expect of a store in it's first week. But I haven't been there in a while.

You should always talk to the manager when you have issues. Don't ever waste your time w/ the regular staff.

Oh, and the jacket's cool, but $850. Not even close to worth it.

800 bucks fuk me

Self-Edge carries quite a bit of this line, and from what i've read/ heard has great customer service.

yay, this is nice but I would never pay that much...

Just to clarify, MFSC is an exclusive collaboration between Mister Freedom® x Sugar Cane.
The line is designed by Christophe Loiron, Owner of Mister Freedom® in Los Angeles, and is manufactured by Sugar Cane, both in Japan and in USA.
The concept is based on the story of a fictitious character, a 1930’s Merchant Navy sailor, who had his wardrobe custom made by Naval Clothing Tailors, as he traveled around the world. The collection spans over 3 seasons.
Full details in the Fall08 LookBook downloadable in the “Mister Freedom® Originals” section at www.misterfreedom.com
The collection is available at early supporters www.selfedge.com as well.
A thread on SuperFuture is also devoted to MFSC.

The J. Crew Liquor Store stocks selected items of the MFSC collection, in limited quantities, making them finally available on the East Coast.
Thank you for your support,
Mister Freedom®
