As the year comes to an end, I want to say thank you to everybody for reading and supporting Inventory magazine, and h(y)r collective previously. It’s been a fairly fast couple of years and we continue to learn and progress everyday with a goal of constant improvement and providing genuine content on things we personally care about. I’m not sure if everyone pays attention to the comments, but there have been some mixed reviews on our writing, direction and depth of insight recently – some rude, some constructive and some very positive. I'd personally like to say thank you for the latter two - regular feedback is important and definitely helps as we move forwards. We began blogging because we thought there were a lot of great people, brands and products out there; many of them weren’t getting the attention they deserved, and we thought we might curate the products in a fresh way with our own perspective and insight. Whether that comes from Japanese online shops or factories down the street, the common theme is products that we like. We never thought we should do it to make money, to get free clothing or that one day we could work with the brands we loved. We did it because we love doing it, because we were already searching for and putting these things together everyday – why not document that and share it? I do apologize if some of the posts have felt like impersonal press releases recently. That's something we really don't want - a personal perspective is something we always want to get across. We are really busy on a daily basis now and perhaps I’ve neglected to put in the time each post deserves. I will personally make every effort to produce the best, most genuine, and insightful information I can everyday. That’s really all I can do. I’m not looking for sympathy against the haters, I just wanted to make it known that Simon, Owen and I are doing this because we love it, and will continue to do it for the same reasons as we started, hopefully you’ll continue to read and follow us into the new year with open minds, positive ideas and continued support.

Thanks again to everyone. We’ll be back in blogging form on December 26th with a look at the Engineered Garments Spring–Summer 2010 collection. Happy holidays from Inventory.

Ryan, you and your crew have put together something great that is only going to get better. Inventory is my go to site the moment I open my computer and sit down with a coffee. Maybe I'm biased because I have always had an affection for the things you write about so I see the negative comments as throw-away. There will always be haters.
I am about to graduate from college in May so the "real world" is about to kick me in the ass. I'm still figuring out the best career path to pursue. Ultimately I want the cliche, to be very successful and make lots of money, Despite that, at the most fundamental level I want to be happy and enjoy my job. You clearly enjoy what you do and it shows. All bullshit aside you guys are doing something great because you have the passion for it. Enjoy the holidays... I'm looking forward to what's ahead.

merry christmas one and all..from my point of view, you the inventory lads are doing a fantastic job bringing thought and insight about the brands and stores many of us like to know about
i just wish i was 15 years younger,3 stone lighter and earned 50 times more money to buy the quality clothing
finding your website was a god send
First of all Merry Christmas. I have and still do enjoy your daily content very much. Although on occasions the writing has had the odd spelling and grammar mistake, I have never felt it appropriate to criticise as i'm sure we all make mistakes now and again. What we all don't do is take the risk to do what we love, except for a few of us (I don't include myself in that). I can only applaud your efforts and hope that it continues. I have had my copy of Inventory for 3 weeks now and have resisted temptation to open it, keeping it for Christmas Day. That way I reckon I will have one guaranteed present I will enjoy.
Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year
ditto [tho', i'm not a man & don't have a copy of your lovely mag] ... love to see fellow canadians succeed at something they love doing that is worth doing ... never mind the bollocks ... your blog is quite fascinating from a lady's point of view, there is much i wish was translated into womenswear [everyday stuff, not designer fluff, nor too field & stream] ... totally support the workmanship & history behind long-life garments & whatnots ... happy ho ho, etc ...
Happy Holidays guys. Some of the criticism is helpful, some ignorant, and others just downright spiteful. Take what you think is warranted and disregard the rest. Everyone has growing pains, but you guys are doing it balls out for the whole world to see, and that take courage. I for one will keep an eye out as you guys grow, progress and develop new ideas and ventures. One love.
I am so impressed. The growth in content, sophistication and aesthetic is incredible over the past 2 years - the one constant is your passion for what you are doing and it is exciting to watch something significant grow from that passion before our very eyes. So easy to criticize and so hard to do oneself. Thanks to you all for inspiring me every day.
Even though I usually spot most stuff you put up elsewhere too, I still visit this site most frequently and I think it is because of your personal approach and consistency in style. I plan to buy your first print issue right after christmas. Keep on doing what youre doing.
"I address the haters and under-estimators, and ride up on em' like they escalators"
Not everything you guys post is my cup of tea, but why would I expect it to be? I return to get a taste of a different perspective than my own.
Ryan,
What you've done with your passion is the embodiment of what I hope to do with mine. Wish nothing but the best for you folks and from day one have been nothing but appreciative of what you do. I'd imagine ninety-nine percent of the people who follow your evolution feel the same way.
In our eyes, even your stumbles beget progress. Can't ask for much more than that, and my only advice to you would be to always, always, always find a way to continue to enjoy it. So long as you enjoy it, fu*k what anyone here has to say good, bad or just plain damn silly!
Much peace,
Barry
Do what you love above all else. Your passion will and does come through. That is why I read. To gain insight maybe I had not thought of before. If someone does not like it then that is their thing. Again do what you love above all else everything else will fall into place.
Happy Holidays!
Everyone else has pretty much said it as well as can be said. All I will add is to keep doing what your doing, we all will be here and continue to read and enjoy. Look forward to many more years to come...
Happy Holidays and a Very Happy new year!
-Nick
I've truly enjoyed reading your blog and mag over the past year or so. Your tastes are rather similar to mine, so I get a lot out of what you all write. Thanks for highlighting some of the more obscure brands... I've become aware of so many that interest me that I'm afraid you've made a trip to Japan a must in 2010. Most of all, I will admit I am envious that you all get a chance to share your interests and passions with others. Happy Holidays, gents!
-Mark
Keep doing you Inventory. Happy Holidays!
Keep up the great work and happy holidays
I started following h(y)r collective about a year ago now. I've seen the evolution from a blog to a brand. What started out as something I checked out occasionally is now my go-to-blog. I check it with my morning coffee, RSS during the day and check back in at night. I come here because of one reason only and that’s CONTENT. The content, perspective and insight you provide is unparalleled. It’s not recycled posts and locked/deleted comments that you see on other sites, that’s what makes this site different. Keep doing what you're doing.
Wishing OP, RW and Simon a Happy Holidays and continued success in the New Year.
it's not hard to separate the wheat from the chafe in terms of quality of comments. the website isn't perfect but nothing is. inventory is always one of the first things i read each day and i enjoyed the first issue thoroughly, keep on keeping on.
I must say, the moment I stumbled upon h(y)r, I became a loyal reader. Each and every time I turn on my computer, h(y)r, and now, Inventory, is the first site I visit. I love the fact that I can visit a site that is in such alignment with my own perspective as well as have the opportunity to learn a great deal.
Thank you Ryan, Owen and Simon.
Zack.
Enjoy your time off. Will be looking forward to issue 02.
hi, from seattle-
Fresh tune: World Citizen by: david sylvian ryuichi sakamoto. h(y)r is great, thank you. read Apartmento? I would love to see good T's, loose neck, white or design. read Tragedy and Hope by Carroll Quigley, somebody.
The writing on Inventory Updates is simply beautiful (along with the garments and footwear). Happy Holidays.
I find Inventory to be most consistent with my taste in style amongst the various blogs out there. I've made a couple of purchases based on the in-depth analyses and reviews of the products discussed on this blog.
