It's always good to have at least one really tough jacket on hand in the fall and winter. Something you can look great in, but not hesitate to beat up at a moment's notice. The USMC jacket but Apolis Activisim might be just that. The waxed cotton exterior is quite heavy and feels really tough. It's made in the USA and comes with a very substantial virgin wool liner. The liner is removable and feels a little bit more like a different jacket as it is a little tough to put on smoothly. That said, it feels comfortable, warm and definitely tough enough for the fall. It's available at Roden Gray in Vancouver, but you can also find it online here. The Apolis collection continues to improve each season and this is one of my favorite pieces from this fall.

I have this and it's awesome. Like an updated version of Filson -- still a little boxy, but way more wearable for me. As you said tho, it's a bit of pain to pull on over a thick sweater. And the liner shifts around a bit. Considering the price of their other outwear pieces, this one feels like a reasonable price point too.
