Red Wing Black Chome Leather

redwing-united-arrowsRed Wing boots have become a house hold name in menswear the past two years for those on the outskirts of civilization as well as for those in the heart of it. The classic 875 has been the most publicized and purchased model, with other round toes, chukkas and boat shoes following suit. It has been quite hard to locate any of the models in black leather, at least north of the border. I have always loved black boots the most myself, and I would love to have a pair of either of these Red Wings in black. I think the color and change in leather makes for a much different feel, while the models remain the same. Despite what some people say about their comfort level, I find them to be quite nice on the foot, and I would be happy to put these models in black to the test. Available at United Arrows.

the 875s are beautiful. But again with Japan, they come in 3 sizes (none in my 11) and they cost 322 $ or 256 euros - not to mention how bad the shipping must be. So basically, why even bother looking?

i think the 875's become useless when the sole wears completely flat. maybe i'm mistaken though.

Urban Outfitters was selling them at $180. But the "China Made" ones, not USA made. Not very noticibale though, same exact sihouette

I have these in black and i love how they look, but they are incredibly uncomfortable. i'm not even tender-footed, but i (literally) almost can't wear them. the salesman actually suggested i get a size or two up and buy some special interior cushion that he was selling separately, but they're so bulky that to buy in a larger size, they looked too HUGE.

875's are comfy after you break them in

Both of these styles are available at Get Outside in Toronto.
The ones that Urban Outfitters was selling for $180 are in fact made in China and from the "RW Inspired" line, which looks quite similar to 8130s in terms of styling. I personally prefer them as they're are lighter, have softer leather, and are lined, making them alot more comfortable right out of the box then 8130s - what can I say I'm a pussy. They also have a slightly different profile, sporting a lower and wider toe, as well as lacking the stainless steel eyelets which I think really make the 8130s pop.

I own 4 pairs of the 875's in different colour ways purchased from Duffer and American Classics in London. The black chrome leather boots took an age to break in due to the stiffness of the leather dying process. I must have used 20ft of band-aid to protect my feet from the wear and tear of breaking them in.

You can have any of the wedge soled boots replace by the official retail stores in the US. I'm in Las Vegas and the main redwing retail store can have the soles replaced for $70 a pair and takes about a week to complete.

No matter what people say, these boots have become an icon in workwear related fashion and will continue to be so.
