I am supposed to go on a family trip to Hawaii this summer, I'm in Vegas now and the weather is definitely getting warmer. What are some good swim trunks? I have come across Birdwell Beach Britches a few times and I like the general look and feel, but they happen to have THE worst website I've ever see, and I can't tell if they have a model with an elastic waist. For some reason I am thinking the elastic waist is a cool look. Throw in some lining, maybe a drawstring and some pockets and your set. I think navy blue or soft red would be the best colors, but I'm fairly open. I thought I would get the search started early this year, any tips would be nice. So far these are the best I've seen, but something a little more interesting might be in order.

Ryan, I highly recommend Birdwell Britches--if you can try them on first (or return them without any hassle). Clean, simple design--no lining, no elastic--at a very reasonable price. I've been wearing them for years thanks to dad and uncle, who are both serious longboarders. That said, the sizing is a little... odd. I'm usually a 30 waist, but I wear a 32 in Birdwells. Even then, a 32 isn't always the same size; it varies trunk by trunk. Without any elastic, these things have to fit right out of the box--hence the "try on" or "no-hassle return" rule.
Also, the Birdwell site is BRILLIANT.
LOL at people talking about designer swim trunks, or the P&R ones that are $100. My first post stands..
Actually, what you should do is wait until you get to Hawaii to buy swim wear. Check out the beach and what the guys are wearing ... and then go to one of the surf shops. If you are going to Honolulu, you are in luck! There are several shops that carry Birdwell's along with a few other popular brands. Ask at the email address or telephone and we will tell you the stores. -- The mesh lining turns into sand paper as it fills with grit, sand and especially salt. An elastic waist lasts as long as the elastic and then you are holding up your pants instead of staying on top of the water. Or the board. Birdwell's Britches learn your body until they feel like a second skin, so you don't have to worry about them. -- Yes, I am Evelyn and I am a Birdwell.
