If you hadn't already figured it out Beams is kind of awesome. They design and produce clothing, accessories, stationery and music while importing other items from overseas for their retail empire, and they seem to do it all well. The latest offering I'm impressed with by Beams (and another reason for me to go to Japan) are these 3-piece deck shoes. They're made of a pretty sturdy looking canvas and come in three great colourways all of which have the perfect accent colour just about the midsole. Other little details like the thin 'dress' laces and the 70's era heel decal also make them appealing to me. They look like the perfect spring sneaker for this Take Ivy look that myself and a lot of other people are probably going to be rocking 90% of the spring. If you aren't down with that look the classic simple design makes for such a useful shoe that you can co-ordinate easily with any other spring outfit. I think the beige is my favourite, but I've changed my mind 7 times since I started writing this, I love them all equally. They're available at zozotown for a very reasonable $100.

These are great alternative to Authentics the Navy caught my eye first - but i'm now also favouring the Beige as they would look equally nice in shorts or chinos.
Can you re-post the link to Zozo? Yours didnt work.
Thx, these are awesome.

Nice shoes -- but this is about the beer down. great list of brews. Poland? I want to try that one. The Russian too.
Thanks
Come on now Ryan...you and I both know thats a bit pricey for a deck shoe. You basic canvas deck shoe as well...cant ever really go wrong with a classic deck shoe, but anything 100+ is kind of obnoxious...lol
did we even consider proxy services?
Owen not Ry, but ya i guess when you factor in all the costs its going to take to have them on your feet in North America i guess they're a little pricey...
but i guess it's all relative. i could get authentics here for half the price but how many people have authentics. Aprix are as hard to find and the same price and I don't really want Chengs Plimsolls..
i'm ok with eating 99c pizza instead of real meals until i've made up the difference...
They are made of CANVAS, not kangaroo leather and not even suede. $100 for a pair of canvas shoes may seem reasonable to you, but I would rather buy authentics and dye them those colors. It probably costs them like a grand total of 50 cents to make those shoes.
My apologies Owen. At the end of the day its all in the eyes of the beholder whether or not its worth that much...I personally like Aprix and would spend the money...
cant really justify anything we all buy at the end of the day...lol
I always have such a hard time buying from japanese sites...wish there was a translation option to make things easier
All good man,,
Exactly,, value is completely personal. I'd probably go Aprix too if I was forced to chose (leather lining = win).
I don't know though, we either can't justify anything because we don't need any of this stuff. or we can justify everything; if i bought these i'd wear them everyday this summer, beat them 'till they fell apart.
In the end, we're all addicts and we all deal with it.
yes they are canvas. kind of like the way Filson makes $300 CANVAS bags and Paul Smith and Rachel Comey make $400-600 CANVAS shoes... not leather or suede. That stuff costs pennies to make compared to what they retail for too.
The thing is,, these are Beams shoes. Beams makes their products for the Japanese market. Ever been to Japan? 9,800yen is fuck all there. Put it in perspective. Rent in Tokyo is 9,500 a month for a 3x3 meter 'apartment'.
