Blog Suggestions

newblogI don't know if this is a good idea or not, but I figured I would try it out. I am currently working on a new layout/design and potential development for the blog which may require a new column. Things need to be tightened up around here so I thought I would ask you, the readers, what you thought. Are there certain aspects you hate about some blogs? Are there particular features you love? Since the blog is really for your use, I would hope you would find it aesthetically pleasing, functional and better than the rest on the Internet. Is that too much to demand? Maybe with so maybe subjective views it might be hard to please everyone. But I'm open ears for your thoughts now before I get too deep into it. Thanks in advance.

Agreed.

i agree with photos in the RSS. as far as design, a more magazine-ish theme might work well since you generate so much content in several categories. it would greatly increase ease of navigation / organization of content esp for ppl that done subscribe / only visit so often.

completely agree about full rss feed with photos

February 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermanofstyle

personally, the thing that i like the most about style blogs is when you see the products in a real world setting. maybe a mix of both.

February 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commentersam

If we could read full articles with images in the rss feed that would be the best. It's nice to get updates on the site through a mobile rss and that way I can read full articles on the go.

I actually appreciate this layout for its simplicity, but I wouldn't mind some VLOGS here and there.

February 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTiawan J

photos in the rss (although, it would cut down your traffic) and a couple vlogs would def. be clutch. You could probably get rid of the tags on the right side. If someone is looking for something specific, they'll put it in the search bar anyway. Easier access or a small screen shot of the last three issues for easy access on the side. Also, I've never, ever look or used the bottom recent posts or similar posts. Just sayin.

I would like to see video reports on your travels to shops and tradeshows, showrooms (Capsule), and interviews as well

Some of those fully put together outfits like the ones @ Secret Forts would be cool.

What I really enjoy about the current layout is the use of whitespace. If what is posted is a sample I cant help but feel slightly worried.

I like how the columns are balanced and gives the posts center stage, and rightfully so

February 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJuice

I dig the current layout because it's simple and easy to read! I hate blogs that have too much going on... doesn't let me focus on the content! And in terms of content, I'd love to hear more info about the business side that I read about in your actual magazine... or more varied posts, not just product stuff. Besides that, I love your blog for what it already is!

I check your blog probably four times a day since I discovered it about two months ago. I'm a big fan of the content ya'll cover and the format. Keep up the good work!

I always thought the current layout was great-- I'm not a big RSS guy, so that part totally escaped me.

And I don't know f it's just me-- but I have adopted the guy in the ad (top right corner) as how I see you. Blogging in bare feet with your cup of coffee-- the sun spilling through the massive loft windows. If you're in a sterile cube somewhere, don't tell me-- it will destroy the facade.

JP - That's great! That's a lot closer to me than a guy in a sterile cube, a bit lighter complexion however but coffee and nice light is spot on.

I appreciate all the comments and suggestions. Looks like RSS is probably going to make people happier, but if the traffic drops dramatically I might need to rethink the approach.

The general layout probably won't change a ton. Just tightened up. But I have considered using white squares for posts with a light grey background.

I feel it will be an improvement but it's great to hear what the readers want.

Hi,
I like the the blurred image of how the future blog might look like. Some under categories would be good, videos of your trip to different shops and interviews.

February 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterGreg

This layout is very simple and thats what I like it , if you do alter it dont make it too complex and busy Ryan. I would like to see some more music stuff thats just me though.

February 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJKISSI

the balance between the creative content of the 'magazine' and the blog is SOLID.
Don't fuck with it.

But like someone said above. More tits... or how 'bout a broader umbrella of bloggable items - other shit that catches your eye from movies, music, labels, 'zines n' tits ofcourse.

February 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commenter78

I'm not much of an RSS follower either, I love the current set-up. More content of any kind could be useful, as you've gained a following for your style knowledge, we will be interested in music/movie/book knowledge you may like to share.

February 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterangelo

Get a goddamn proofreader

February 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commentermighty crown

I'm waiting for the magazine to drop.

February 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBig Kid

I love the layout! Don't change a thing! On another note, my lady was wondering if you knew of anything like H(Y)R for ladies? Anything you can suggest. Don't know if you want to go down this road, but in terms of construction, materials, design ladies clothes is often pretty interesting

February 6, 2009 | Unregistered Commentertim

I think your coverage and choice of posts are great the only thing I could see improvement in is the size of the images themselves. I really want to be able to see this detail and design quality that you talking about in the words of the posts. I'd love to see some of the goodness up close and personal on a bigger scale.

Great blog.

February 6, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterPhil

Ry,

Streetstyle pics would be tough but i think it would add a lot to the content you already have on the blog

More photography / music / design / architecture / tits

yeah we could always use tits

cheers,

-M
