I have become addicted to The Monocle Weekly editions in the past month. Every Sunday, Tyler Brule, Robert Bound and the gang bring on a couple interesting people and talk about what's going on in the world. The show runs about 35-45 minutes long and touches on topics such as Tokyo's mission for the 2012 Olympic games, the development of cultures from Korea to Africa, and the state of retail for independents and large companies. This edition Olivier Spencer was a guest as they spoke about how well established and important the online retail scene is in the UK. It's interesting to hear the differences between North America and the UK in these aspects and to hear a designers take on it is kind of fresh. There is so much going on in the world these days, often too much to read and cover yourself, so I find the Monocle Weekly gives a nice little insight into some of the positives around the globe. Of course having a little sense of humor and nice taste in music doesn't hurt either. The editions are fresh, quick moving and really easy to digest, definitely a recommended at-work listen.

That is interesting. I'm glad they have weeklys, I had no idea, I love sitting and reading through an actual issue whenever I have the time. I can't get enough of how educational it all is! So good!
Couldn't agree more with you on The Monocle Weekly. What I also really love about it is that it gives you a much better idea about the people behind the mag, how they are ticking and how they work. Hearing Tyler Brûlé, Robert Bound and Andrew Tuck about getting stuff into the next issue changes how I read the mag. I had the same experience with other podcasts accompanying magazines.
It's all good. Definitely hooked to the mag too.

Its so good, I find it hard to find time sometimes to get through the whole magazine, its nice to have the podcast. Really innovative approach to journalism.
I don't know if I love the monocle podcasts or hate them... I certainly listen to them every week, but its smug elitism often drives me nuts. This week's edition was especially painful with the excessive name-dropper, Joshua Ramo and his nauseating political punditry. What counts as informed commentary in this 'new media' is pretty questionable at times. Anyone interested in the 'hegemon in decline' thesis should go back to the source, Immanuel Wallerstein's world systems writings. His monthly commentaries on world affairs are far superior to anything that Monocle can offer. Check them out here:
