A.P.C. Pioneer Denim

apc-pioneer-denim1A.P.C. have brought back their washed out denim, without having some random person actually wear them this time. They used to make a pair quite similar a couple years ago that were available in the Cure and the Standard cuts. I managed to track down a pair on eBay about a year ago and they've been my favorite pair of jeans since. While A.P.C.'s standard cuts are among the most universal on the planet, they managed to reproduce one of the most natural looking washes available. This new Pioneer version has a little bit more detail in the wear wrinkles, but still have a pretty natural look. These are not totally unlike the version Our Legacy have in their spring collection, but I would imagine A.P.C.'s version to have a slimmer cut. Again, there are higher quality denim pants in the market, but for the price and cut, it's hard to beat A.P.C.

I've been waiting to buy a new pair of APC jeans. I should just buy them online, but I can't get over not trying them on first...especially since I'll probably end up wearing them to death.

Err, um, these will set you back $310 clams. I don't think that's much of a bargain. They state they are Japanese denim so maybe the quality is better than their staple versions. I'm skeptical, doesn't say they are selvage. For $310 you can get some pretty amazing jeans of amazing quality, check Self Edge or BiG.

Otherwise I agree with you about their usual $155 price point for the raw versions, being a value.

Jeff, I didn't catch the price on these ones. $310 is a stretch on the value. But yes, I was mainly referring to their stand issue denim. For $310 you can buy something really special over at Self Edge.

apc's suck. they're junky, junky quality. i've been stuck on japanese for 3-4 years now, but if i was to go a non BIG/SE/proxy route, i'd DEFINITELY pick a pair of LVC's or even regular 501xx's over apcs.

just sayin.

looks like they are basing their new wash more on the wear patterns of the kids who've been wearing APCs lately... note the stacking whiskers at the hems and the exaggerated whiskers.

I personally prefer the stone wash that they did a few years ago. Those were pretty fun.

A.P.C. gets their fabric from Japan, but it is made in China. This doesn't necessarily make it a bad jean, but it also doesn't make it a GREAT jean, or even the best in the market.

If you're looking for washed out denim made from Japanese fabric, the 2 best are EDWIN and PRPS.

If you're looking for raw selvedge jeans made from Japanese fabric, there is no better value in the market then NAKED & FAMOUS.

If you're looking for the real stiff 21 oz. shit, go with IRON HEART or SUGAR CANE.

Denim-wise, I believe A.P.C. is all hype....

The whiskers at the knees are a little intense. Naked & Famous definitely are the best deal in selvedge right now.
