Our Legacy Sneakers

our-legacy-sneakersAs we've mentioned already, Our Legacy seems intent on expanding their collection to cover the majority of men's products. I think they are one of the only new labels doing it well in terms of capturing an aesthetic of a lifestyle. Whether they are just trying to make as much money as they can, or just feel they've always wanted to make these items, so why not do it now - the look of their products is always right on the mark. While it might be hard to actually improve on the deck shoe after Vans, Sperry, Visvim and Aprix have offered a great range of clean versions. I would have to say these are probably the exact colors I would have made the shoe in, and the dark stripe around the midsole is a perfect classic touch. I thought the shoes looked good in person, but for a sneaker I think you really need to wear them around to determine their qualty. Now available at Tres Bien for $98

Zig-Zag, the brand/company that also makes the popular Wino shoes found in army surplus stores and the like, also produces a deck shoe/boat sneaker. The Zig-Zag deck shoe is perfect; it looks nearly identical to the Our Legacy deck shoe and costs only 15-20 $.

It improves upon the Vans version in that it has a thinner sole and it doesn't come with the aesthetic clumsiness of the Sperry Striper.

Unlike the typical Wino shoe, the shoe's construction is high quality; I wore the deck shoes in the snow this season and never had a problem. I wear them daily when walking through NYC and I've yet to have any tears/rips within the canvas.

However, outside of select mom-and-pop shoe repair in the East Village in NYC, I've been unable to find them anywhere. And unfortunately, an exhaustive search of the internet has so far been unable to yield any good results.

Does anybody else know what the shoe that I'm referring to or where to find them?

Not to change the subject, but where is Our Legacy available in NYC. Their website is confusing and my internet collection is slow.

Kyle, check out Odin

Yes, it's suppose to be at Odin this spring. Also it was at Bird last fall, so I would only assume this spring again. Not sure if they picked up the sneakers.

Tres Bien is going to be the best price however without a doubt.

There are two places that I know sell the deck shoes:

Alex Shoe Repair at 57 2nd Avenue (between E. 3rd and 4th street); he also has a vast collection of the Winos; high tops and low tops, slip ons and lace ups.

OK Shoe Repair at 350 E. 9th Street, between 2nd and 1st Avenue; this is an extremely small store, and only carries the deck shoes in size 8 1/2 and 13. Why those sizes? I have no idea.

And there are two different versions of the deck shoe made by Zig-Zag and they both appear in strange circumstances.

There is a newer version that looks more similar to the Vans; these come in a white color. And, there is an older version that looks more similar to the Our Legacy; these come in both the blue color and the white color. However, I've been unable to find these older versions in white for quite some time.

Hope this helps someone; I'd be ecstatic to know of any stores with a larger selection or more info on the Zig-Zag deck shoes.

These Shoes look like shit.
Don't buy them.I like Our Legacy but the quality and finish is absolutely not worth the money.

They sell Zig Zags at COURT in NYC at 178 Mulberry St. btwn Broome and Kenmare. They have the lace ups, hi tops, slips ons pretty much all sizes and colours for $25/pc or 2 for $40.

I have a pair of these in red and in terms of finish and canvas quality they are a bit lower quality than a pair of vans classic. The construction is also a bit "looser" in the body of the shoe, and if you lift your toes up from the sole without moving your leg their outline is pretty visible from the canvas. In regards to splitting between the sole and canvas, it takes about the same wear and tear as a pair of vans. That being said, I cannot find another pair of beat-em-up tennis shoes that look so natural(color schemes on vans are horrendus and with sperrys the "Sea wash" effect I see on some is a bit over the top).
