Perfect: Red Wing Oxford

red-wing-oxford-hyr-1I'm not quite sure why I held off posting these shoes, but here they are - Red Wing Oxfords. The US company stopped making them in around 2000 due to lack of sales and interest. I caught wind of their return in a Free & Easy a few months back and have been hassling Red Wing since to make some for the Shop. With no luck, they are telling me they won't be available stateside until FW10. So I was a little surprised to see them pop up in the Rugged Museum last week, to say the least. I got back on my emails with no luck I have sort of given up getting a run made up before next fall. The low cut boot is just what I want this fall so I'm not sure I'm going to be able to wait since they have my size in two great colors just sitting there. Now my debate is whether to wait until I visit the store in November or just bite the bullet and order a pair tomorrow. The low cut boot has the perfect choice of sole, great shape around the ankle an is really a great bit of classic shoe design.

I have been looking for those (model 3116) like crazy, even speaking to the main european distributor. I spotted pairs in a few places but never in my size

pairs appear from times to times on ebay, they go pretty cheap

but the search should be over in a few months

In Europe, they will be available again this spring/summer

i love the black pair. They have a really classic look about them...can't get my finger on them specifically.

I would rather have had them a little bit higher in, more like a chukka boot.

Great find! Hopefully you'll get them for the SHOP!

Ryan as being the veteran traveler to Tokyo that I am, I strongly suggest you order them right away and not roll the dice by waiting until November. Month to
two months time wise in Tokyo retail terms is the equivalent to waiting a full year
before buying! Come on Ryan, you know Rugged going to have them first. US
and Canada have dues to pay in order to have equal priority with Japan. Our markets are going to have to stand the test of time. Chances are it ain't going to happen. I wish that wasn't the case but it's the nature of US retail beast. Keep On Keepin' on brother!

hey ryan, do you have any pics of them being worn? I'm interested in seeing how they look with pants and what not. thanks

^ You're right Wayne. I better get on it. Hah, all very true.

Jack: No pictures with them on as I don't own them and only can see them all alone in these photos. If I pick up a pair I'll be sure to let you know.

Ryan, I'm sure if you scanned through any Free&Easy you could spot a dude rockin them that you could scan and maybe post if you were so inclined. Anyway, good look on your quest. I've been hurt to many times because I waited on something I desperately wanted at that particular time so you have my support whatever you decide.

The black ones looks great. Nice contrast with the stitching.

Anyone got a clue about sizing on these? In some ebay auction a while back, the seller said they are true to size, as compared to the standard oversize RWs...

And agreed, pretty much the perfect shoes.

wait till you get to tokyo, its all part of being there hunting stuff out,the experience of buying instore at rugged is far better than the click of a few buttons on the webstore.

I got a pair of these in roughout suede leftover stock at Three Threads in London.

They fit true to size with other shoe brands

these and the yuketens are derby shoes, not oxfords.

Just got mine from the store about twoweeks ago, they still have full size i reckon. i agree with stephen, you should buy them instore to get the full experience.., one of the best shop interior in town.

its not the easiest store to find, i spent almost 3-4 hours trying to find my way to the store and not many locals know the store either. but its well worth it..

good luck.

brcd- really you found it that hard to find?I felt it was one of the easier places to find as its not near anything,it actually amazes me when speaking to people (creatives designers etc) in tokyo how few have been to the store, saying its quite far away?I thought this was odd with it being no more than a sharp 10 min walk from omestando station, looking forward to visiting again in nov

Joe - these are labelled as Oxfords in the Red Wing catalogue.

re-stephen. i think because its not near anything that makes me hard to find. i literary have to walk around kita-minami aoyama for 3 hours to find the shop.
my advice is ask someone who can translate the map for you...

thanks tom.
guess no need to call stuff out, seeing as that's how company labels it.
it's just that it's the most basic distinction for any shoe, and derby and oxford designate such different characteristics -- i.e. more casual vs more formal -- that it kinda pains me to see the two conflated. oh well. they're nice shoes, nuff said.

Ryan I hope you get these for your shop. I'd need to try them on as I've never had this brand of shoes. However, if they fit properly you'll have a guaranteed sale cause these shoes look great!
