Yuketen Ripple Sole Oxford

yuketen-ripple-sole-oxford-01Yuketen's highly anticipated fall collection has now begun to hit retailers and there is really an interesting variety available. One of the most intriguing footwear designs from Yuki is the Ripple Sole Oxford. The ripple sole used to be used by American companies like Alden decades ago but has since seen production for US markets come to a cease. At first glance, it's really not something I would feel necessary for city living and wearing. However the look has grown on me lately and with it's paired upper of Yuketen's oxford design, I think I am into them. I would prefer to wear the shoe in a brown leather but the black could prove to be good choice for the depths of winter, or if you wanted to look like you were actually in an Engineered Garments look book.

Black looks great, but I prefer the pair shown in the EG Fall catalog (which I think were at one point sold at Context)

I'm really excited for the collection to be available as well. As for this particular model, I think a brown pair might be more palatable as you mentioned in the post. I'm not really feeling the look of the solid black with the black sole. (but I do like the sole.)

Ryan,

I don't know if Yuketen sends you their products for free that you feel you have to talk about them, but these are just plain ugly (and overpriced). I like some of their designs with that weird crepe sole, but this time you simply picked the worst one.

i think they'd look much better with a walnut brown upper and a cream sole.

Black shoes seem to be associated with formal wear and Men's Warehouse shoppers, which may be why these shoes aren't hitting the spot. Plus, black shoes with with large soles never seem to go over well given their association with formal wear. In general, they look comfortable, and, on brown, the tread would be sick, but I doubt many will be able to pull these black shoes off.

definitely not the worst of the lot at oc, did you see the 'native chukka'? wow... my pick would be the hunt boot. If I had four hundred whatever to drop, which I don't. It's classic, but not in a boring way, much more in line with what I thought the h(y)r aesthetic is.

BTW, why does no one carry the backpacks? They looked amazing at capsule. But again, probably out of my range.

These look like old man shoes. Not in a good way.

^I didn't really really expect too good of a response on these. They come from pretty specific references and I was surprised OC brought them in myself. I think they are great and a definite change of pace from the crepe or standard Virbram soles.

That said, the Maine Guide boot and Hunt boot are great, along with the 6" - I would probably buy them before these, but the ripple sole is really interesting and I like the upper.

btw - Yuketen has never given me anything for free

All black is a difficult one to wear, but I don't mind this style if done right.
I can't remember who did a brown boot like this with a white sole (Junya?), but they were a fresh take on the Red Wing style boot and looked pretty fresh.

These are biblically heinous. Really, Ryan. I'm in shock at just how offensive these actually are.

these shoes deserve velcro straps instead of the laces...

Just as we were thinking you blog just to get free stuff !! ..clearly you must be a rent boy as heaven knows how you afford all the stuff that you supposedly acquire.

These shoes are tasteless, something similar could be found at ones local morchery but of course not the same quality as yuketen.

Saw them at Opening Ceremony L.A. and I didn't like them at all. They are bulky and chunky. The Fall Yuketen collection is my least favorite of there's I ahve seen.

Peter, what are you talking about?

wow. i definitely wasn't looking for anything this. it's got a ... 'hot in Tokyo' vibe to it. i think they might be really fun own and stomp around in. i like them.

Admin...you are seriously losing respect for posting garbage
where you are just trying to promote affiliated companies (ie. opening ceremony). Thanks for throwing integrity out the window..that's a -1 in my book. And -2 for trying to sugar coat (as usual).

September 28, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterhmm

hmm...

I'm quite saddened by the loss of your respect "hmm" however I will probably continue to write about products that I personally like or find interesting. One man's garbage is another man's treasure. Just as a note - no brand or store's are "affiliated" with h(y)r collective beyond the ones I wear everyday and carry in the shop. I actually have never even spoken with one person from Opening Ceremony's retail operation.

Thanks for the comments, positive or negative - but we can try to keep things constructive either way.

Respect to that Ryan. Personally I can understand why you choose to feature this shoe. You are definitely inspired by the EG/Nepenthes aesthetics and I can imagine this going down well with the Japanese. I personally like the Yuketen Ranger Moc for this season but I don't mind your selection at all. You've got my support to go with your heart to put up what you enjoy.

It's interesting to see how certain readers can be so ruffled and challenged by a personal choice that has a certain old workwear vibe to it... considering the fact that this will be the kind of stuff that magazine like "Free and Easy" do feature

I like these. All black leather shoes have always been my favourite colour for footwear.

^Thanks George - I appreciate the comment.

Totally awesome look. It's good to see Ripple Soles surface again. Alden used to make them & so did Knapp Shoes. They are wonderful for work and equally as cool to wear for casual and dress.
