The Supreme Ripstop Parka I posted on Friday was a great waterproof jacket but it did have a particular aesthetic. For me, its bright shell and echoes of Patagonia were perfect but I also appreciate that may not be everyone. If you liked the reference but would prefer a more subdued option, Margaret Howell's Pioneer Jacket might be worth considering. It's inspired by similar technical garments but adopts a more neutral palette. In this instance, the resounding influence would seem to be Rohan. There's a similar spirit in the styling and choice of muted colours, and functionality has definitely been prioritized. Made from GORE-TEX, it features four well placed pockets, waterproof zips, a lined hood and classic drawcord waist. However, its technical features aren't overwhelming and it still has a very considered appearance. It's guaranteed to keep you dry but could also be combined with almost anything. The Pioneer Jacket is a prime example of what Margaret Howell does best and represents a timeless combination of fashion and function.

This is a really nice jacket love the shape, material and, and design flawless!
too reminiscent of Visvim...
maybe visvim is reminiscent of margee
I purchased this jacket a few weeks ago. Let me just tell you that the colour is a bit different from the photo: the khaki is a bit more green, and the blue lining is darker, it almost looks black. Plus the size is fairly generous. I purchased a small, my normal size, but it fit more like a medium. I returned the jacket because of the size, but I definitely would have kept it otherwise.
Margaret Howell's sizing annoys me. My body isn't any smaller than the models' they use for the lookbooks, yet the clothes fit them perfectly and hang off me.
@Patrick - same happens to me with APC. I'm somewhere between small and medium, and I swim in what APC call a small.
start saving kids
if you're gonna do something reminiscent of a 60/40 why skip the plaid lining? always thought it was the coolest part.
its not 60/40
its gore- tex, chalk and cheese
by the way, is this jacket made in England?
@ Zhehan... I'm not sure. I'll try and pop into the store for you today but I might not have time. You could always send them an email, I'm sure they'd be happy to answer any questions.
@Simon.....Thank you for your reply, i will try to contact them!
probably made in portugal
@simon, i am going to buy this jacket. But i am worrying about the size i am going to get. S or M, I am usually size Large for Visvim.
nice looking .... but I don't really like how it looks on the model. for me it's an item i'd need to try before i'd buy. is it made in the UK?
@ CE... Zhehan asked me the same thing the other day and I'm actually not sure. Pete suggested it might be made in Portugal - a lot of their stuff is made there. I think it's probably best to email them.
@ Zhehan... Sorry I didn't see your question until now. If you're usually a Large in Visvim, I reckon a Medium should be fine. Once again though, if you email them, I'm sure they'd measure both sizes for you.
I was always under the impression that one of the conditions of using Gore-tex in a garment was that it had to be manufactured in China.
