Margiela Knit Caps

margiela-knit-capsOne of the best purchases I made last winter was a knit Margiela cap. This winter they are back. For the first time, Tres Bien Shop has the collection on the roster and have a lovely offering of clean cut knits for our layering pleasure. The dark ribbed cap is about as versatile as you could hope for. With a nice deep charcoal tone, it legitimately works with almost anything we might put together. Although I don't personally get too involved in exterior branding, Margiela is one of the few that pulls me in and those four little white marks just look right. Nice and subtle in toque form, the light or dark grey fit snug but will stretch out after being worn for a few days. It's nice to see Tres Bien's expected good taste in the collection with their first buy, as well as making it a little more accessible for most of us.

Hello,

Can anyone recommend shops in L.A. to me that carry
clothes as posted on this blog. All I know is Opening
Ceremony..

Thanks,

Moritz

Margiela knit caps are essential winter wear. I think this will be my fourth winter to keep my head warm with one.

Paul, you are very fortunate to be in LA. I'm in San Diego, and all we have here is Barney's coop. LA has RRL, Mister Freedom, Confederacy, American Rag Cie, South Willard, Craft, Steven Alan, The Stronghold, Monocle, Union (which I belive carries Visvim), and Fred Segal. I recently visited Fred Segal, and they have a very large inventory of Gitman shirts. They also have a couple Junya pieces in stock, which was nice to observe in person, though I can't afford any of his products.

Yes, accessible as in available, but $126 USD for a hat?, not exactly accessible to most of us...

just wait ... a post or so ago, ryan stated that they will be carrying some hats in their shop. i wonder if they are part of their (y) collection or if its just some additional items for their webstore.

regardless ill be waiting so i can support hyr

Visvim makes a great knit hat, w)taps makes a wool field beanie that's great if you want a minimal military aesthetic. I have been looking at RRL knit hats recently and they look great for around the same price as MMM. I've been wearing a gray beanie (hand knit in the usa) from HUF which is a skate brand that has a great collection rivaling that of Supreme in terms of high end, fashion conscious skate brands.

126 dollars for a hat that owned and under the creative supervision of diesel. it's not even "margiela" anymore

September 8, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterBrian

bullshit price, get me mam to knit me one ...you guys are such brand whores

how about being creative and finding something that is affordable for people in the real world

Pete,
Affordability is subjective, and this blog certainly cannot cater to all our budgets. However, your proposal on finding affordable and stylish/quality products isn't a bad one. Though I suggest you do that yourself, rather than demanding that others do it for you.

^thanks David, and all for the comments.

Of course we could go lend out a cap from the Army Navy and tell you about it for $12, but I really like these hats. Diesel or not, they just plain look good and are made well. The site has always just been things we like.

There are a ton of options out there, expensive and less expensive, but you still pay for what you get in the end.

I have Visvim cap from last fall I got for a great price but it's too warm for the September still. SNS Herning makes some good hats and yes, we do have some knitted caps coming for the shop.... It's up the hand knitters to see how long they take however.

im not demanding anything david, merely making a subjective point with basis.

most of the clothing featured on here no one has ever even seen real life, and also i bet if one was to put a pair of chinos on from gap and say rrl they wouldn't notice the difference..

seems people are so honed in on a brand they think quality, please what quality is...?

best winter cap: US gov wool watch cap, comes in black, green and navy. Only knit caps you need.

Pete: I heartily disagree with your comment about telling the difference between Gap and RRL

September 8, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterben

ben i acknowledge your disagreement with pete but am undecided on the matter

September 8, 2009 | Unregistered Commenterryan

I feel that I, and many readers here, could definitely tell the difference between Gap and RRL.

I also feel that there are more than a handful of people buying the brands we cover on the website, and they all reside in the 'real world'.

ha ha i just noticed I used the word great four times in my previous post

time to get a thesaurus

but anyway, yeah brand does not always = quality, but in the case of RRL, the label does make high quality products, which is why it's garments aren't simply under blue label or whatever. It's obvious when you get the chance to feel, see or wear the garment, but I guess it's really just opinion. Some people will insist on drinking the finest wines - I personally will drink anything set in front of me. Just different strokes for different folks.

gap has nice "looking" items if one wasn't inclined to care about craftsmanship, quality, materials, and the fact that the brand has it's labor overseas to turn a hefty profit instead of making a long lasting product and giving back to the country that made it what it is today.

It just goes alot deeper than aesthetics for some people. It's about good design and an *engineered garment*, it's about intent and meaning behind the products and a relationship with the consumer.

/end rant

yeah id attest that i own quite a few of the pieces mentioned on this blog and plan to own more in the future. this blog has a very good aesthetic taste that lines up quite nicely with my own.

that said, the intention of this site isnt for you to go out and buy EVERYTHING hyr mentions. but it is a good place to look for items that arent readily available and its one of the best places to find out about hard to find and limited items.

you should have your own taste and aesthetic and allow sites like hyr to influence or at the very least increase your knowledge and compare and contrast it with your own opinion, style, etc. but there is no "real" way to go and buy every item mentioned on this site. that would be stupid, not very practical, totally not worth the expense, and you would be a sad, uninteresting individual if you couldnt figure out your own style.

if you like gap over rrl, thats cool. but i own the limited edition rrl selvedge officer chino and as a past owner of jcrew, banana republic, and polo chinos, these are not only RIDICULOUSLY better, any knowledgeable person would see/feel the difference

as the above poster said ... end rant

davidH: thank you very much for your hints! i am not exactly in la
yet. going there from berlin on friday.

If only the current trends were popular 10 or 15 years ago. Then you wouldnt have to pay 500 dollars for a nice warm plaid shirt and wool hat that you could buy at sears for 30. Be warned, this site is still telling you what to wear, even though its oing so in a gentle way. Wear what you want, not that it matters.
