Ryan Willms Last week in New York we happened to be in between appointments when Jake messaged me to come drop by for an interesting video project he was putting together. Generally all of us at Inventory like to stay on the other side of the lens but Jake had a simple concept that felt fresh and included a great list of subjects. He was kind enough to include the Inventory editors; Simon Roe, Owen Parrott and myself. The Test Shots are leading off the series that will play out on Jake's blog and be viewable in HD in a much bigger format at Jake's Vimeo page. The videos offer a genuine glimpse into the people and their personalities and really take the idea of a street style photograph to a new place. Thanks again to Jake for including us, enjoy.

Ulysses needs some meds, guy is clearly bi-polar.
Ulysses-red card dude-back to full time World of Warcraft playing for you I guess.
yeah good censor the only person that keeps things relatively rational here
It's really so funny when men start bickering with each other about something as light-hearted as fashion. It's not politics, it's not religion - it's just pants and shoes. And no one is right, so no one can be wrong. - I, for one, think it's interesting to see moving images of the usually invisible voices behind Inventory. Their ideas and their style comes alive in a whole new way and I very much respect that they and Jake D. are trying new things.
A Treasury of... Well put indeed.
In general, if you don't like the concept and end result of these takes that's one thing but to personally attack these gentlemen is just malicious. If you've ever sat down with any of these guys like I have, you would agree that these negative remarks are undeserving. I think some of your mothers should step in and take your blogging privileges away which would probably do you good. Me personally I like the awkwardness that each individual possesses in these takes, especially the takes for NY Times. It's just a reminder that these are just individuals and not demigods. Further more these takes are documenting a moment in time in this little fashion niche that we are so consumed with.
Look at things for what they are, not for what they aren't.
'about something as light-hearted as fashion'
Exactly right, it should be light hearted.
This self conscious narcissism unfortunately isn't.
And by reading the last few posts I'm not allowed to voice my opinion if i don't agree?
'just individuals and not demigods', *phew*, and there was me about to sacrifice my first born in the hope it might land me some RRL cargos.
Fashion isn't necessarily always lighthearted. The way you dress can represent your values, culture, religion, career and your tribe. That is why people get so passionate about it.
wow comments on here, ACL, and jake davis sites have been so belligerent as of late ... why is everyone hating so much!?!?!?!?
Everyone is welcome to voice their opinion in a respectful and thoughtful manner. There is no need for ignorant attacks on people with no reasoning other than to be mean. There are a lot of comments that don't like the videos or the way we wear our cloths, fine - if you're so inclined to continue reading the website and magazine after the fact, then just remember what we're producing here and be respectful to everyone in your response.
Thanks to those who either made thoughtful comments or were kind in your response. It's really not too much to ask. Fashion doesn't have to be overly light hearted, but we aren't telling anyone how to do anything or saying what's right or wrong. We are simply proposing our thoughts and feelings in the open in a pretty unoffensive manner.

I've just read that back in Derek Zoolanders voice.
nice videos, guys, wish they clvde been longer; you shld do this more often, it's a great idea
btw, simon, what was that tan passport holder/wallet in the video?
@Joel... It's a B.Yoshida/Porter book cover that I keep my notebook in. It's basically a plain brown leather version of this...

The clothes you guys are wearing are great and you wear them well. However, I think it takes away from the effect of the pieces if everything you have on is from a high end heritage/americana type brand. Inject some of your own personal flavor into it. You see dudes walking around NY wearing all this fresh kit but they have no swagger or playfulness, they end up looking like a mannequin for workwear. The best style advice my mom ever gave me was to make sure you are not only wearing new stuff.
Like my Mom always said, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all". Unnecessarily negative comments just make the commenter look like a fool. Of course, considering this is all anonymous, they have the benefit of not having those they interact with in person also think they are foolish. I guess then they just have themselves, then.
for starters, EVERYONE is smiling in the video at some point.
It is okay for a person's style to evolve over time. People seem to be hating on Ryan for trading in his Supreme blazers and baggy denim for Alden Longwings for slim fitting denim. For what? People get older and in many cases their style has to change as well. Imagine walking into a nice restaurant with your girlfriend and being denied because you are dressed like a 13-year old...now THAT is whack.
My only hope is that Ryan, Simon, and Owen have held onto their old personalities and not turned into a bunch of guys who collect pencil-sharpeners, old globes, and other shit like that because it is "cool."
The last thing I am going to say is that real style isn't about the # of designer labels you own. If you are one of those guys that only wear products that are made in Japan and the USA then that's great but don't turn your nose up to those that can't afford those things. A truly stylish man can make an outfit look good even if he bought all of it from Old Navy or Macy's.
great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people
Well put Eric,i just hope that inventory stays true to what they preach.
Fingers crossed that this is not a FAD.
Hey Owen, what kind of pants are those? Looks good!
Anyone else find themselves skipping the write ups and going straight to the comments after looking @ what is being presented? Bastian of entertainment.
What's the point of inviting comment if the only comment acceptable is fawning appreciation?
These films are vain and self important. In my opinion.
Shoot me.
Hi there... Lovely vids! I apreciate them alot. They display so much more than a image ever will.. I find them informant, and not self important! You all have very nice manners of dressing! Owen cargo's, where are they from? And are they still available??
