I kind of hate the fact that the industry has evolved to the point where my mind is a season ahead of what season it actually is. It's hard though when you've got this footwear syndrome and companies like Visvim exist. This time, they've put out what I'll go ahead and say is the best deck shoe I've ever seen. The cherry brown Horween hide creates an amazing colour palette coupled with the off-white and black accents. It's one that's ideal for any occasion and carries over well even between seasons. Add the low profile folk sole, horse hide lining and cork insole and you've got a perfect looking shoe that I'm sure feels even better. Sure they're expensive but then again so are TV's, and I definitely spend more time wearing shoes than I do in front of the tube. Besides, who needs a TV when you can just stare at these?

HAs the format of your blog changed? Just thought i'd let you know that the entire post no longer shows up in google reader, but only a couple of lines - forcing one to link to the site every time. This may be what you want, but it is certainly far less enjoyable a process than it was before.
Yes agreed. This is beautiful... yet the price makes it so far away.
I don't think the industry has evolved to being ahead of season--it's always been like that. You are the one that has adapted to its formula. I hope you're enjoying it. These shoes are unrealistically good.
i've never been much of a fan of visvim until recently. i'd love to see those in person.
hahahahaha great write up.
That black piece on the heel is throwing it off.
just based on the picture this could easily be confused with something from payless
i actually have those (the previous americanas, without horween) and they are very nice. they will last long and are comfy as hell. bit cold for this time of the year but i will pull those out asap.
the detail is sick and they are definitely worth the money imho.
Beautiful!
picked these up in japan last july. while expensive, i can attest that these are by far the best looking and more importantly comfortable deck shoes i have ever felt and seen. it is unfortunate that these do not have soles that can be replaced as the leather takes a while to really break in and acquire the perfect patina. it seems that the new folk series will have soles that can be replaced.
i have these in black picked them up when they first released the americana. look amazing...at first...but do not wear well...the leather laces are very weak, and the inside heel tore exposing the foam. still love the look and the materials but poor production...something i find all too common with visvim...despite their materials and attention to detail.
these are terrible looking. even if they are made of dinosaur leather by a cool japanese company, they're still obnoxiously expensive orthopedic-looking boating shoes. look at that sole. and on top of that they're apparently not even made well? in five, ten years visvim will be remembered for wasting some of the nicest materials in the world on their retarded looking futuristic indian shoes
These are awful lookin...the material maybe be amazing but the design of this shoe is terrible...if these exact shoes were made by another brand and sold for $69.99 , no one would give a fuck
theBaumhaus - buy some timberland boat shoes then.
I tend to agree with holy shit. The sole is a bit unnecessary.
I'm sure these are really nice shoes, but I think i'd have to agree with spragga. At $500 or whatever exorbitant price i think you can find a comparable quality pair of shoes at a fraction of the price such as something like the redwing wabasha

I own one pair, it is so comfortable, solid and precise. It is the ultimate boat shoe. Your everyday walking companion.
The white technical sole gives a clean contemporary touch on this otherwise overplayed formula and most important gives you a high level of comfort and stability while walking.
A word about the "Visvim touch": some people judging the esthetic of this product on regular western grounds are missing the point.
"Past present future are all the same" There will always be a component of each in every product.
It is a thought-after joint, very Japanese minded (there is a stylistic conversation between Japanese fav. items and their re-interpretation by Visvim), it is really for those who care about details.
There is only one company pushing the envelope in contemporary menswear and it is Visvim.
It is not fashion. It is hyped in the medias and blogs ect... but there are no catwalk, advertising ect... (so far) and most of the products are wearable throughout the years.
There is not one look, you can be emo, hippy, baggy, conservative old or young wearing Visvim your way. It is just up to you to take advantage of the versality of those products.
The price is just here to remember that over-consuming is a sin. Every product is precious.
The same people complaining about the price of a Visivim shoe, are may be spending far more over 1 year on x pairs of vans/nikes. Choice is yours! For the real Visvim head, It is not just falling into the trap of trainspotting on the latest craze.
The price is right, it is limited production, hyper complicated business if you are an independent producer (which Visvim is)
Best
