Margaret Howell Spring–Summer '10

Margaret Howell - SS10-1

You can always find a variety of images surrounding a new Margaret Howell collection, but I particularly like the ones from the show. The styling is perfect and that extra sense of movement works really well too. For those who have embraced the brand and understand the depth in its simplicity, this is a collection that offers a lot. This season the focus was on creating garments with a relaxed feeling and an effortless appearance. As always, this was achieved through a considered approach to fabric, but also emphasized with a series of wider silhouettes. This is complimented by the styling in these pictures which was inspired by film director and visual artist Derek Jarman. These kind of collections may require you to look a little deeper than usual, but therein lies the charm and appeal of Margaret Howell's entire aesthetic. We'll have more on the brand in the forthcoming issue of INVENTORY - I interviewed Margaret a little while ago, and James will be shooting some portraits and an editorial in the next couple of weeks. Until then, enjoy the new collection in its entirety.

Now this is refreshing. Some good simple, classic silhouettes. Not a chambray work shirt in site!

The Gentleman Farmer returns! And with a worthy, honest post too.

Good timing as I had just spent yesterday looking through all these on the MH site (which incidentally has a decent sale on right now for FW09 and is worth checking out. Knitwear! Outerwear!). Anyway, I've been wanting a classic "French Style" long sleeve for a while now, and also a decent spring MH piece in the wardrobe, so it looks like I'll be making a purchase or two this summer...

I have a few MHL shirts and pairs of trs
Sizing can be on the big size which is surprising for such a high fashion label.

Agree with Wayne - so good to see honest, classic, understated style that has a real timelessness to it.

@JS... My posts are collectors items nowadays. Keep The Gentleman Farmer to yourself though mate - I don't want that catching on!

Some of the pieces I really like. The overall look seems very french, relaxed. Not sure about the socks and sandals.

The 3 pocket grey blazer looks perfect. Size down on Howell main line, I had to take a small in a similair blazer from last season and usually a M to L! Trousers look exceptionally nice too. Also there is a main line Harrington like the one above on ebay for a steal...

@Arjan... Sorry, I only just noticed your question. I think we'll have it out by late March.

a man showing toes is never ok in my book so naturally sandals are never, ever forgivable.

i would consider forgiving accidental incest over mandals.

that being said, the natural toned, loosely elastic sock with a sandal is a very interesting idea. but i can never, ever bite. it's still a sandal on a man.

and like incest, even if accidental: it's still not ok.
