Band of Outsiders Spring Collection

Band of Outsiders SS10-1

I'm well aware that probably everyone browsing the internet has probably seen the latest look book by Band of Outsiders, but I'm not going to let that stop me from posting it again. While I know what to expect every season from Mr. Sternberg, I can't help but be impressed time and time again at how he pieces the collection together, shoots with the lovely aesthetic of Polaroid and seems to be having fun while doing it. While the prices are always high and the garments sit on the best shelves around the world, the brand continues to not take itself too seriously, it at least make it feel that way. I haven't seen a particular piece that I must have, but the way the brand is presented makes it very appealing and the spring look collection photos again are one of the strongest of the season.

I know we haven't even reached spring/summer but the 2010 fall/winter collection has some very strong pieces from the recent photos. I especially like the look of the mountain parkas

I'm so glad this overhyped, undersized brand isn't my style, cause I'd almost get sick of hearing about it.

Way to be a negative Norbert Wenzel Dashington. Not very creative to switch Denzel Washington around a little.

I'm going to have to agree with Wenzel on this one. I really don't get excited about this brand. The clothes are average, the prices high, and the fits TINY and TERRIBLE. I'm always surprised by the amount of attention, and praise and shelf space they get.

Wow, check out my "hater" post. Shit.

I wish more brands fit like BOO; although I like the option of being able to tuck in a button up, their sleeves and bodies are perfect for the tall and skinny set.

Hey! That's Donald Glover from Community on NBC. I think he forgot his pants in the first picture. If biker shorts with a polo shirt and knit cap is what's in for this Spring, than I'll pass.

And that's James Franco's little brother, Davey.

and Leslie Mann. Can you put this all in one comment for me? I don't want to look like I have A.D.D.

yeah the fits are always awkward for me. Although i bet their suits are really where it's at

Mark Ronson who is a buck 30 soaking wet is an XL in BoO. BoO does a great lookbook, but other than than I don't get excited about this brand. With the resurgence of Americana and workwear inspired clothing we've seen cuts transition back to TTS fits, which I like. If their shirts fit like Gitman, they would open themselves up to a whole other market.

To be fair, they did calm down with the fit on some of their FW09 shirting. And the fit of their outerwear, shorts, etc. aren't comparable to the fit of their tops at all. Correct me if I am wrong, Martin Greenfield tailored most of their suits and coats last season and when trying some of it on at OC a few months I don't remember their fit being abormal.

However, I think the price point is too high on some of their items. But they get huge reductions around sale time so just snag 'em then.

The hype is definitely too much, but the line has some definite style.

I can't really be negative about this brand since it is not one I really pay close attention to in the first place.

I support Scott and what he is doing with his own brand because he does stand for something and that he is about of this new group of American designers wanting to really establish themselves firmly in the industry. I just wonder however, if the way he has continued to direct the brand and where it is leading is the right direction? After some fun-moments, some hilarity with known tv/film icons does the whole brand need need to bring it back down from Cloud 9? Because if you look back at his Spring 2007 collection or his Fall that he showed as apart of Refinery29's video feature, it was totally refined. Maybe I am wondering where he will take his brand next as similar to Laura and Kate's Rodarte.

On pricepoint, Scott as much as any other designer wrestles with the economics and trying to steer a balance counterpointing his personal choices of fabrics from manfacturers or produces themselves. They DONT come cheaply.

He was an agent, so he's a good brand builder, knows how to leverage celebrity, and he understands how the machine works. I've never bought any pieces, but I respect him, for coming a long way in a few years in growing the breadth and depth of the line. With that being said, he's at a critical stage, because his clothes are particularly unique and if he doesn't continue to evolve or surprise from time time, he'll get overran by the wolf-pack of brands creating similar lines.

I wonder if price always comes up in online criticisms of BOO because the brand doesn't take itself so seriously in its marketing and plays with a fun image. I have handled lots of noir, ripped and cut, European or Japanese lines that are subjectively no better made technically or materially, and yet fashion-conscious people don't scoff at their prices commanding twice that of Band of Outsiders.

February 19, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterJorden

The way I've always looked at it, different brands cater to different types of clients. Brands vary on fit and it's up to the consumer to find which clothes are best suited for them. I like to dress well and be fashion-conscious, but I'm extremely skinny so finding clothes that fit me appropriately is a laborious process. Band of Outsiders is one of the few brands that I can actually fit into and yes the prices are exorbitant, but I have a high disposable income and I choose to spend it on clothes. I think I belong to the demographic that Band of Outsiders is seeking to serve so I'm not sure such heavy criticism about size, fit, and price are entirely warranted.
