New Balance x Beams 1500

beams-new-balance-1500 ss10-4

This is one of those collaborations that feels unsurprisingly surprising, or maybe the other way around, I'm not sure. The two large companies that are Beams and New Balance have come together to create one of the most simple shoes released this spring. A lot of New Balance's collaborative efforts have been that of a more colorful manner and it took the masterful eye of the Japanese to pair down one of our favorite models by the American shoe maker. It's very difficult to go wrong with a grey suede trainer from New Balance, but it has been even more difficult to find the 1500 in this simple colorway. Classics like the 993 and now 996 are generally available, but Beams have done a nice job with one of the more playful models by New Balance. The odd thing from my perspective is that Beams is a huge champion of US made products, New Balance also tries to make as much as they can domestically and yet the 1500 is not an American made sneaker. While there are a lot of issues from materials to pricing that make it possible, it would have been nice to completely round out an otherwise great collaboration by having it made near by - even if it's not available anywhere close.

I must say that it's a bit hard to navigate around the Beams website, but looks like they have a lot of good stuff. Has their spring/summer catalogue been released yet?

I love that orange on the bottom; not to be missed on each backwards lift of the foot when running.

On an otherwise mute grey sneaker, a flash of highly visible orange spotted during a run. It's like you bring the sun up with every stride.

You guys are really tapping the antisocial, anglophile, upper west side birdwatcher steez this year. Seriously go up to 86th & Amsterdam and on a Sunday morning and you'll find hundreds of grandmothers who have this look on smash. Bong Bong

these are fine but i'm happy with my Made in USA 992's. they're grey, too, they come in a narrower width ... they're the most comfortable footwear ive ever owned. i even got an extra pair (for $75 - when they were switching over to the 993) which are just waiting for my current 992's to wear out -- which hasn't happened despite almost two years of wear.
