Over the last couple summers I overcame my own issues with wearing shorts and have actually started looking forward to wearing them in the coming months. I used to just prefer pants; jeans, chinos, cords - I just thought they looked and felt better at all times of the year. I've come around and now I have to say one of my favorite pairs out there is the fatigue, or camp short. This spring Engineered Garments have brought back their best knee length pants in a variety of perfect colours and fabrics. The reverse sateen, light-weight denim and chambray complete a perfect arsenal of shades to get you through the summer. The model isn't new and the chambray and reverse sateen are common materials in the EG collection, which are nice familiar faces now. I was lucky enough to recently find a pair of the chambray shorts from SS09 for $45 which is definitely an easier price to swallow. That said, J.Crew also have had a very nice version of the shorts and thanks to Mr. Pate's heads up, they were one of my favorites last summer.

The ringspun were the best in these, shame that fabric seems to have been missed in the collection this time around. However, I can highly recommend the chambray as I have these too. Great shorts.
I always had a prejudice against shorts, but last summer I got a pair of black Newport linen and some navy madras shorts on sale and started to wear and like them. This summer I'm a little bit more open to the idea. Although, I still think that they are best for the beach or on the bike.
I'm still trying to find these with a nice price tag. Ryan, if you come across another great deal pass it my way. I really love J Crew chinos and just ordered their new sun-washed Stanton shorts in the rustic orange. I figured the bold color would fade with some hard wear and look great with a blue or white oxford. Next to the fatigues EGs blue chambray Ghurka shorts at Odin are a top priority.
Did the J.Crew versions sell out? I'm having trouble finding it on the site.
Ah, never mind. Key word = had

What else is there to do in the summer!
Not certain that the J Crew Camp Short http://www.jcrew.com/browse/single_product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441794102&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302033752&srcCode=PRICEGRABBER&noPopUp=true will be offer this year, I haven't seen anything to suggest they are but I would check the site weekly. For $55 bucks or so they where the best shorts for the money.
The Camp Short is a perfect example of how J Crew is on top of there game.
Living in the city, I try to limit there use to the weekend on the beach. In days when guys still had a sense for style, shorts where mostly worn by little boys. Just trying to look like a grown up!
I agree with hansj, I can't really see myself walking around NYC and Brooklyn in shorts or eating at a cafe for that matter. Light weight pants are the way to go.
80% of my spring/summer outfits will consist of shorts. Then again, I do live in sunny SoCal...
It's a style-nirvana over there, isn't it?
Nice post Ryan. I have the EG green fatigue shorts from SS09 and they are indeed awesome; really take a beating too.
goddamn those are dope. I need a pair of shorts and some shoes for spring... Time to start lookin...
Aiyaiyai, no shorts in NY? Are you kidding me?
I was wearing them every second day last summer. I mean, why the hell wouldn't you? Shorts weren't meant for the beach only.
I actually tried on a pair of these a couple of weeks ago(denim). Had some store credit to spend, but i went with something i could wear right now, not in 4 months :/ They're definitely a nice short though.
Hi all, just found this here after an fast yahoo search. Nice site you got here! Keep it up!
