Just Opened: Neighbour

Words

Over the weekend a friend of ours opened up a new shop in Gastown, Vancouver. The menswear shop is tucked away in a small courtyard, shared by Roden Gray and Haven, just a block from Inventory Stockroom. The space looks beautiful, open, clean and nicely put together. Saager, whom some folks might know from Unis, just opened his store with a soft launch, but there is still a handful of great products in stock. He's got a small selection from Mackintosh, Our Legacy and Outlier, along with bags from Drifter and an offering of Neighbour-branded rugby crew necks and ties - both made in the US. The shop is definitely worth stopping by, as there are also some small surprises to be found. It will be nice to watch Neighbour grow into it's first full season this fall.

Kent Combs

01

Images

—01. Folding comb.

Words

For those of us who like to match our Vibram soles with neat hair cuts, you might need to get yourself a neat little comb. I kind of hate the classic black combs I'd been using, and brushes are often too big to maneuver a fine part. Maybe that's why I cut my hair off, but if I'd spotted these hand finished combs by Kent, perhaps I'd have a good use for one of these.

Wilson Knits

Words

The next time I'm in Japan, I am definitely going to the Wilson store. The product is quite difficult to find online, even through Japanese shops, so it might just take a plane trip. But everything I've seen looks great. The simple, well made, classic looking pieces are ideal basics for anybody's closet. The sweat shirts, pocket tees, football tees, socks - all good.

Tricker's for The Bureau Woodland Polo Chukka

01

Images

—01. Wedge natural crepe sole with a wide trim and barbour welt.

Words

I haven't seen too many chukka boots from Tricker's myself, but the general shape of these special make-ups for The Bureau look quite nice. I think the silhouette of the upper is very nice, and it feels nicely refined, but the more rugged crepe sole makes it still feel casual. The crepe looks a bit bulky in the images, but I think once you're wearing them, and it wears down a little, it would look perfect.

Beams Plus Bandana Shorts

01

Images

Words

Beams Plus bandanas have been extremely popular over the last year, but this spring they decided to do a little more with the nice, soft, cotton fabrics. The patchwork shorts are a great way to throw some pattern into an outfit, while still keeping it wearable, blue and not too crazy. Patchwork blazers also can look nice in the spring, but shorts are a little more manageable, since you don't have as much of the pattern, and it can be partially covered by a shirt.

Visvim High Water Chinos

01

Images

—01. Navy.
—02. Khaki.

Words

Visvim chinos are one of the best items in the collection, season after season. Whether they are the full cut leg, or the high water version, the cotton is incredibly nice and the fit is great. The high water cut is a bit slimmer, and with the stitched cuff, you can even let it out to get some more length out of them if you'd like.

Words

The images are already starting to do the rounds, but they are too nice not to post, especially on a Sunday. Margaret Howell, as a person, and a brand, present one of the most cohesive aesthetics I've ever seen, and it just happens to be my taste. These photographs of Margaret's country home on the coast of Suffolk are rather beautiful. The tones, the items, the subject overall - have a look over at the NY Times magazine for the rest of the images.
