Needles Deer Skin Moc

01

Info

—01. Inspired by Nike Air Moc.

Words

The Nike Air Moc always has some sort of strange appeal. But take that shoe and replace all the materials with the most comfortable and premium available, and here's what you've got. There is no way these moccasins aren't some of the most comfy shoes you could put on your feet. Unique, and still quite simple, Needles shows their expertise of reinvention yet again.

Words

Coley Brown's 'A Recurring Dream', which was recently published by the consistently impressive Gottlund Verlag, is available as a signed edition from Dashwood Books, courtesy of a book signing being held on Wednesday February 1st from 6-8pm. I can't recommend the book, publisher, or store highly enough; so if it looks of interest and you happen to be close by, then I certainly suggest popping in for at least a minute or two.

Makers & Brothers

Words

I'm not a fan of that new Google image search function. It takes the fun away from the internet, which for me is the stumbling and searching through the overabundance of blogs, stores, and websites to find the source of something I've seen somewhere else. Trial and error, detective work, or just plain luck. These are my methods both online and in the real world, and so I was pleasantly surprised to "stumble across" Makers & Brothers this week, as I searched around to find an item I'd seen and was trying to track down. Established just last year by the brothers Legge as "an online retail venture founded on simple things; the handmade, objects of integrity, contemporary vernaculars, a curation of everday design and craft", the store carries some interesting pieces by several excellent contemporary designers. It doesn't hurt that I also happen to have a thing for stools at the moment.

Words

Another new season arriving in stores, and another Stone Island post. The Ghost Ventile Jacket is available in Khaki Green and Navy Blue this spring, and although I've personally been eyeing up this particular jacket for at least a year now, there's honestly not too much else to say. A classic brand, using a classic fabric, on a soon-to-be classic piece.

—01. Available in tan and blue.

Words

The Fennica brand continues to create new products that fit in beautifully with their aesthetic. A collaboration with Porter Yoshida definitely made sense, and the result is a nice casual bag. The new ruck sack comes in two fabrics and comes in an ideal size.

Visvim Virgil

01

Info

—01. Black suede.

Words

The Virgil's are back, this time in three different suedes at End. The boots are arguably the best Visvim model ever. While the price keeps going up, and some have an issue with the heel counter, the black on black gives it a very subtle look. Light weight and extremely comfortable, the Virgil's are always going to be one for the 'want' list.

Words

Our first delivery from Engineerd Garments has arrived in store. Included in the shipment are some great accessories, a handful of shirts, a couple jackets and some really nice hats. The short sleeve shirting is especially sharp, featuring polka dots and an interesting rayon/cotton paisley fabric. The field caps also look great and offer a nice alternative to traditional ball caps.

David Hockney: A Bigger Picture

01 02

Images

—01-04. All works by David Hockney.

Words

This January David Hockney opened his latest exhibition, A Bigger Picture, at The Royal Academy in London. In a short interview on their website, he stresses that it's not a retrospective, and without it many of the pieces would never have been done in the scale they are seen on the Acadmey's walls today. The Yorkshire landscapes are quite beautiful, some using technicolor combinations, and some as simple charcoal sketches. The show also includes Hockney's iPad drawings and a selection of new films. I was lucky enough to see it on my last afternoon in London, and it's well worth a look if you're in town.
