Sols Monochrome Chukka

01

Image

—01. Manufactured by Asahi Corporation.

Words

Early next year Sols will be adding a monochrome model to their lineup of high-quality chukkas. There are lots of small Japanese companies producing classic American sneakers these days but, in my opinion, the Kurume-based brand not only focus on one of the most appealing silhouettes, they also offer some of the best canvas footwear this side of US-made originals.

C.E Cable Waffle Knit

01

Images

01. 100% Cotton.
02. Made in Japan.

Words

This C.E sweater mixes cable and waffle knits with ribbing for a modern twist on a very traditional style. Made in Japan from a flecked cotton yarn, assorted textures replace the brand's usual graphic approach for a unique crew neck option.

Gary Simmons: Fight Night

01

Info

Metro Pictures
519 West 24th Street
New York, NY 10011
October 30 – December 13, 2014

Words

Gary Simmons continues his conceptual legacy with his new show at Chelsea powerhouse Metro Pictures. While it might lack the overt punch of last year's show at this location, it will still be a serious treat for his long-term fans. It builds upon a lot of his familiar themes, most notably boxing, which he uses as a tool to examine the often repulsive state of race relations in early 1900s America.

Drake’s for C'H'C'M' Reverse Scarf

01

Image

—01. 100% wool with 100% silk reverse.

Words

C'H'C'M' recently launched a redesign of their website coinciding with the introduction of an in-house capsule collection. Featuring a number of pieces created for them by their impressive selection of established and fledgling brands, it is this version of the perennial Reverse Scarf by Drake’s, featuring a wool black watch tartan on one side and navy polka dot silk on the other, that is my choice for a refined luxury accessory this season.

Mountain Research Pile Cardigan

01

Images

01. Available in two colours.
02. Made in Japan.

Words

Pile is everywhere among the Japanese brands this season. From hoodies to track pants to chukkas, it seems nothing has escapred the fabric. While the Name. brand gets an honourable mention for the best use of pile, my favourite piece actually comes from Mountain Research. This cardigan is the perfect style and cut to offset the traditionally frumpy fabric.
