Opening Ceremony Spring Footwear

opening-ceremony-ss091Opening Ceremony are no stranger to making good looking shoes. I do sometimes question the quality of the materials and the construction for the price you're paying, but you can't deny how nice looking models are every season. The footwear collection has expanded nicely over the last few seasons, sticking with the winners and continuously trying something new. For me, this spring, the brogues and the loafers are my top choices. Their suede desert boots look good as always with the thin leather sole, but these are so classic looking. The color of the brown looks perfect, the height of the sole, everything. Now available at Tres Bien.

Nom de Guerre Fishtail Parka

ndg-fishtail-parkaNom de Guerre's spring collection has been releasing slowly at a few shops but between the look book and what we've seen so far I haven't seen any real outstanding pieces. The officer shirts are great, but we already knew NDG had perfected those. Finally some of the outerwear has shown up at Oi Polloi including this really great looking fishtail parka. I really like the fishtail cut and teamed up with Nom de Guerre's high quality and slim fit, you've got a winner. The parka is fully water proof with all taped seams yet breathable and still made in Japan. The interesting feature on the jacket is that the bottom section actually zips off and provides an option or a stripped down field parka looking piece. While I've never been a huge fan of the 2 jackets in one idea, I think it actually works quite nicely here, although I would probably keep the whole thing together the majority of the time. ndg-fishtail-parkas

Tanner Traditional Belts

tanner3It's been a little bit since we caught up with some of Tanner Goods latest products, but this spring they are introducing their 'Traditional Belt' which is looking really good to me. I don't have the price for it, but I feel pretty safe to say it would be less than the Gilded Age pieces, and these ones you get to work in yourself. The main difference is the brass center-bar with hand burnished edges and two brass snaps for the interchanging buckle. The leather is the classic 9/10 oz bridle leather in Tanner's regular natural, deep brown and whiskey brown leathers. tanner2 tanner1

Self Edge x Dry Bones x Superfuture

sexdbxsufuWhile this might just sound like another great pair of denim pants by Self Edge's Kiya in collaboration with one of his choice Japanese artisans, it's actually pretty special. The fact that an actual Internet forum has the power and influence to essential design it's own pair of jeans - and really good ones - is pretty crazy. Over the last few years Superfuture has obviously grown into a massive resource for mainly male clothing, although it does have other functions, or so I hear. I still find it pretty cool how websites and forums are able to grow an online community so strong that it is able to produce a high quality product in the real world. Of course a lot of credit has to go to Self Edge and Kiya Babzani as a highly involved member of Superfuture and purveyor of fine denim in North America. The tag was designed by a Sufu member as well, which came out really nicely. Overall a great jean for a reasonable price of $275. It will go on sale February 28th at Self Edge and in their online store. I would not expect to see them last very long. Details on the denim below. "With the SEXDBXS09 jean we've allowed the users of Superfuture and Superdenim to give their input on styling, cut, and accents for a very special jean to be released on February 28th; even the leather patch was designed by a renown artist from Texas named JimmyC from Superfuture. The SEXDBXS09 jean has been produced by Dry Bones, one of Japan's longest running vintage Americana style denim manufacturers. Months were spent getting the denim exactly where we wanted it and the denim was woven for this project; as the denim has never before been used on another garment nobody knows exactly how it will age. Self Edge has chosen a denim with a little more weight than the classic styles, at 16oz it's got heft to it, and with massive amounts of character showing from the warp and weft it's sure to age well. The fit is that of a straight leg jean, slightly slimmed down, with a button fly and a long inseam which can be hemmed to the wearer's length without altering the silhouette. We're proud the way the denim has turned out, it's something we've never had in the store before. The denim has been calendered and singed, yet hasn't lost any character which is instantly recognizable even at a quick glance. Rounded out with hidden rivets, cowhide leather tag, Superfuture dual-tone "Rep Bar" stitch, military grade green rear pocket linings, coin pocket selvedge, and a cotton poly-core stitch; this jean is exactly what we want to be seen in."

Mister Freedom MFSC VS-09 Vest

mfsc-vs-09-vest-denim-signalMister Freedom is at it again for the spring with a pretty cool looking vest. His fall collection was really beautiful work which we saw retail at Self Edge, who did a great job with the art direction of the product photos. Christophe's direction of the brand remains with the hardcore references and detailing inspired by the sea. Made for shore leave, "our Sailor had this denim vest custom Tailor made by the “MFSC Naval Tailors”, Naval Supply Research Dept." With a total of 8 pockets and the yellow coated twill lining, this vest is about as function as cool looking. While probably not an easy wear for most people, if you plan on some swashbuckling and open seas this summer, you've found your prize.

Robert Geller Drifter Coat

robert-geller-drifter-coatRobert Geller is fresh off his new menswear designer award and spring collection is now hitting stores. I wouldn't expect him to change his ways too much in the near future. He seems to bring an interesting mix of really awkward pieces I would never touch, and a good selection of more classic looking items. This Drifter jacket is one of the pieces that falls to the more classic side in terms of its aesthetic. The coat is made of washed cotton/linen and has been sewn up with some French seams - which I generally find to be a good thing. The color of the jacket is nice and versatile and the casual washed material allows for it to be dressed down nicely, the flap body pockets also help with that. It looks good with the lapel up or down which is pretty important for a casual sport coat. It's now available at Odin.

Karen Walker Jonestown Glasses

karen-walker-jonestownI've had more of a fascination with glasses lately than anything else in the last couple weeks. A friend of mine at work got a great pair of vintage Dunhill frames the Geller Marcello's have my attention as well. I also really like a good aviator and need to get something for summer. These Karen Walker glasses are among my top picks right now. The shape of the frames are pretty classic looking, while offering something a little different from your standard Ray Bans. The metal frames look beautiful with the tortoise arm ends and subtle branding. For the price of $200, these are definitely a pretty solid option that will look great for summers to come. Available at Gargyle
