—02. Hand sewn leather soled boat shoes, Made in Maine.

Words

Just last week we were in Florence seeing some of our favorite collections. Engineered Garments was of course at the top of our list and again did not disappoint. In fact, it exceeded expectations on first viewing and we're quite excited about the spring collection to come. Daiki Suzuki used an interesting and intricate tonal embroidery as the starting point and balanced it with a very wearable military aesthetic and a nice variety of floral patterns. What might sound like his general formula was executed better than ever. To accompany the collection, a great offering of accessories and footwear will also be available. The leather soled boat shoes are sewn by hand in Maine, and the really nice woven leather belts are actually handmade by the lookbook model.

Sassafras Fall Leaf Shorts

01

Images

—01. A great length for shorts.
—02. More than enough pocket room.
—03. Unpolished matte silver hardware.

Words

We've written about the greatness that is the Fall Leaf Pant before and their great details. And now they're back in the form of shorts. I'm a big fan of that original pant version with its great pocket configuration but it often goes unnoticed with a shirt over top of them and the rest of the pant leg. I think it might actually work a bit better as shorts though. That could very well be because it was hot out today and I love wearing shorts this time of year but it's also because you can't really go wrong with a great colour like them in the spring nor with the nice poplin like they're made with.

Our Legacy Linen Bomber

01

Details

—01. Paired nicely with a blue oxford shirt.

Words

"A refined bomber jacket with a heavy silver zip – easily worn as a light jacket in the spring. Here, in a blue crispy linen fabric, super nice contrast between style and fabric. The fabric is a 'perfect' thin canvas structure from Italy that has been already washed once."

Preview: Woolrich Woolen Mills SS11

Words

In Daiki's last collection for the Italian licensed Woolrich Woolen Mills, he explores elements of classic mountaineering through certain fabrics and styles we've come to expect from the Japanese/American designer. At the same time, he also adds something new and interesting to each piece via the styling and the subtle details that reflect his own personal tastes. We have a while to wait before the collection arrives in stores, but the first look definitely offers something to look forward to.

Makr Farm Tote

Words

When it comes to bags, it's tough to beat canvas and leather. And when it comes to totes, it's tough to beat Makr's Farm Bag. The simple, clean design is pretty much perfect and black canvas is often hard to come by. It looks fantastic with the tan coloured horse leather as well. As with most Makr products, the bag is well crafted in just a small run of 30.

Nitty Gritty Socks

01

Images

—01. Red light rib stripes
—02. Cashmere cable knit in light blue
—03. Cream and blue block rib

Words

Warm weather generally means no socks for me, although it's nice to add a little bit of colour where you can and socks are a subtle & somewhat unexpected way to do so. Nitty Gritty have a number of great in-house options available which they've produced in association with Italian company Bresciani. They come in a variety of nice patterns, colours and materials that range from a great light blue cashmere cable knit, to a vibrant red striped rib cotton version. Both of which would look good between some Authentics and some khaki chinos perhaps. Some would say they're expensive for a pair of socks, but well made, proper fitting hosiery is one of the most underrated things there is.

Florence, Day Two

01

Details

—01. Shots from our day in and around Florence.

Words

Our first full day in Italy was packed with appointments at Pitti and followed up by a beautiful evening in the Tuscany countryside. Much of Pitti Uomo was as we expected, but still impressive and really interesting to see. From the sea of navy blue, driving shoes and white pants, we bumped into several friends, designers and shop owners; some it was great to meet for the first time and others nice to see again. The weather held off nicely and the sun came out in time to set over the vineyards in the country. The location, view, food and company couldn't have been better.
