Woolrich Woolen Mills Watch Cap

Words

Most seasons I tend to pick up something small from a collection that perhaps appeals, but maybe doesn't bowl me over directly enough to make a substantial purchase. I have a few things here and there that fall into this category, and this Watch Cap from Mark McNairy's Fall '11 Woolrich Woolen Mills collection would seem an ideal candidate for this season's contender. The large text placement won't be for everyone, but the hat is relatively affordable, easily wearable, and available in two classic colours.

Engineered Garments Intermediates

Words

Always a little harder to track down than either the mainline, or the Workaday pieces, Engineered Garments Intermediates offer a few really great basics worth picking up each season. Two of my favourites from the current crop are the Bush Jean and Flat Front Pant, which are both available in a great shade of khaki cotton. One's simple, straightforward, and as classic as it comes; the other, meanwhile, offers a little more in the way of originality and places to put your keys. Both are new in stock, and are currently available from Eggplant.

Issue 05 Release

01

Info

—01. Nelson the Seagull, Vancouver.

Words

Another issue has come and gone, perhaps its still coming for some of you, but it should arrive soon. We're proud about the pages we've put together again and we couldn't do it without our team, our contributors and our friends. The process is just as strenuous as ever, but it was nice to finally put our latest issue on the shelf last month, so to celebrate we had a nice dinner party at Nelson the Seagull, who put together a wonderful three course meal for us. Thanks again to everybody involved in making the issue, and of course to everyone who takes the time to pick themselves up a copy.

Waste(twice) Submarina Jacket

01

Images

—02. Ample Pockets.
—03. Navy Check Lining

Words

While the more typical mountain or trail parka seems to be dominating the outerwear scene a bit these days, Japanese brand Waste(twice) have done an interesting variation of a similar jacket. Referencing a vintage fishing jacket, the cut of the Submarina is unique in that the shoulders are seamless. This makes movement in the area stress free and less restricted as well as more weather-proof. The finely woven oil cloth cotton Millerain fabric give it a nice texture and natural drape despite the many pockets. A corduroy lined hood and check flannel lining provide the cherry on top of a much less ubiquitous looking piece of outerwear.

Zero 1 Magazine - Documented

01

Info

—01. Hans Ulrich Obrist by Jonnie Craig.

Words

A new issue of the online magazine Zero 1 rises from the internet ether. Always worth spending a good while peeking around, the current issue's theme is "Documented". Perhaps the highlight of the whole issue, at least as far as I'm concerned - and one that sits perfectly well within the theme itself - is a great interview with the conversational and curatorial legend Hans Ulrich Obrist. As a longtime personal hero of mine, it was great to read something new on someone who has written, listened to, and said so much. Don't shy away from the rest of the content either, because there's a lot of other great stuff in there too, including work by and on: Maia Ruth Lee and Peter Sutherland, Confetti System, Ari Marcopoulos, Steven Shearer, and Andy Beach of Reference Library fame, to name but a few.

Russell Moccasin Country Chukka

—02. Suede Upper.

Words

They're back, available in larger sizes, and slightly tweaked for fall. Ryan blogged these back in the summer, and the new colourway has just arrived. Two reasons to buy them: 1. They're a Russell Moccasin, and 2. They have fall written all over them. I've personally found myself cursing the lack of middle-choice winter footwear in my wardrobe recently. I have dry weather options, and wet and snowy weather options, but I don't have that perfect down-the-middle shoe that works well in both scenarios; should you head out in the sun, only to find yourself trekking home in the rain. These shoes are an exclusive make-up for Midland Ship, and I want them. Quite a bit.

Sassafras Tiger Camo Fall Leaf Pants

Words

Sassafras have produced this pant in a number of different weights and fabrics over the years, and it's always a style that catches my eye. That's especially the case this fall. The use of tiger camo on the classic multi-pocket gardening pant make this version one of my favourite renditions yet.
