Words

Over the past few seasons Ten C have expanded their collection, which mostly focusses on exceptional outerwear designs, to encompass the odd staple piece. Having already released a pair of 5-pocket jeans in their exclusive poly-nylon fabric, they’ve now designed what appears to be the most near-perfect grey crew neck sweatshirt outside of Japan. Free of branding and complete with authentic details such as a ‘double v’ neck and the customary deep waistband and cuffs, this classic sweatshirt has been produced in Italy from a heavyweight Japanese jersey fabric.

Ganryu Textured Wool Sweater

Words

This sweater from Ganryu is a true work of art. The design cues seem to come from some mix of Angkor Wat's walls and a Rudolf Stingel painting, producing the rare garment that can really speak for itself.

Human – Space – Machine. Stage Experiments at the Bauhaus

Words

"In 1921, Walter Gropius founded a theater workshop at the Bauhaus. It conducted new research and experiments on the relationship between humans and technology. The central protagonists Lothar Schreyer, Oskar Schlemmer, and László Moholoy-Nagy investigated the issues of mechanization, machine industrialization, and rationalization. They sought a new, meaningful relationship with the dynamized, increasingly technically animated environment. In their stage laboratory, they developed abstract motion studies, designed atmosphere machines, and built theater apparatus. They also organized the famous Bauhaus celebrations, where they staged themselves as a collective of 'new humans.' For the first time, an exhibition and a catalog with sketches, drawings, photographs as well as films, figurines, costumes, models, and apparatus are now devoted to the experiments and concepts of the legendary Bauhaus stage."

Raf Simons Spring-Summer '15

Words

The first pieces from Raf Simons' latest collection have already begun to hit retailers. Never one to shy away from an interesting graphic treatment, these prints offer a lighter, more playful feel compared to those used in his recent Sterling Ruby collaboration, and I quite like how they sit on the black backdrops.

Weekend Viewing: Blow Out

01

Image

—01. John Travolta as Jack Terry.

Words

Blow Out, directed by Brian De Palma and released in the US in 1981, is a thriller of striking proportions and, in my opinion, by far the best film he’s made. Taking inspiration from Hitchcock and most obviously the ‘60s classic, Blow-Up, it trades a photographic recording of a murder for a sound recording of one. The film tells the gripping story of an assassination plot caught on tape and how those who witness the event piece it together after the fact. The opening is absolutely pitch-perfect B-horror that leaves you scratching your head for a moment before you’re taken on a taught and thrilling ride, rich with incredible shots and a surplus of costume and production design details.
