Scala Bucket Hat

Our quest for the perfect bucket hat has been a continuous one. We've featured more than a couple from different brands, styles and materials, but it's tough to pick just one. Recently I came across a water repellent hat by Scala that caught my eye. While the brand isn't anything particularly special, they are apart of the Dorfman Pacific Company which as been around since 1921 specializing in hand made head wear. The classic khaki color of the cap complimented by the red and navy grosgrain band looked just right for the fall. They are 75% cotton and 25% polyester which allows for the timely use of a water shedding hat. Especially in Vancouver we've already started to see some gloomy days and my bucket hat has been the head wear of choice. The hats come in at $30 which isn't too difficult to swallow, especially if you're trying out a bucket hat for the first time. Stussy Fall Items

I think I will always have a soft spot for Stussy in my life and likely in my closet. While I may find some of these items from brands making a higher quality product, Stussy has such a rich history and great diversity and range through the brand that it's hard not to connect with it at some point in your life, at least for us. I recently checked in at the Vancouver Stussy shop and had a look at some of the fall items. Surprisingly it wasn't the Deluxe collection that impressed me, but the simple items from the standard Stussy offering. They really toned down the overall branding, cuts and came out with some really good looking basics for very good prices. I know people reading the blog aren't really expecting to find bargains at h(y)r, but each item pictured is under $100 with exception of the Field Jacket which tops out at $150 CAN. That said, if you have any holes that need filling this fall, trying to look good on a student salary or just like Stussy, it's worth an inspection for what it is.

Rogues Gallery Peacoat

I would imagine we might start seeing a few peacoats around these parts. Just yesterday a friend asked me which peacoat to get. Although there are a fairly good number of options, there isn't really a definitive source for pea coats. Surplus can be a great option, if you 'd like a denim material I'd go to Mister Freedom, but if you just want a basic navy wool, the options are pretty limited. Rogues Gallery have produced a very nice basic version of the iconic item this fall. The rough wool features a slim body and narrow arms which are a nice change from the surplus route. The nice color, good pocketing and clean design make it one of Rogues Gallery's winners and an overall good looking jacket.

Look | Fall Sunday

It seemed like it was about time for another curated Sunday outfit. Built for milling around town, carrying some firewood, drinking multiple cups of Joe and fixing a set of French doors - this outfit is comfortable and easy to wear and should get you through any weekend event. The items feel sort of thrown together in terms of their color and different array of materials, but that's kind of how my Sunday's are. The EG workaday cords just jumped onto my must buy list while the other items are all classic stand alone pieces. Woolrich shirt, Barbour vest, Alden boots, Scala bucket hat, WM socks and Sierra Designs parka. You can strip down the layers if need be but at this time of year scarves and gloves aren't needed, just some corduroy, wool and water repellent materials for an easy indoor-outdoor ensemble.

Woolrich Woolen Mills Explorer Hat

Here's another great piece of cloth for your head by Woolen Mills. They do have one of the best versions of the bucket cap on the market and this fall's material choice is great. Whether you use the snap pocket or not, it looks great subtly placed on the herringbone wool explorer. The current Woolen Mills season is probably my favorite to hit shops and I would expect to see more this fall from their collection. The subtle hints of color mixed with the grey fall materials is just right and very easy to work into your everyday wears.

Ransom Fall '09

Ransom's fall offerings are always something I look forward to. Great looking clothing inspired by our back yard up here in the True North Strong and Free. For me, every season Ransom is easily the best clothing line for filling any seasonal holes in my wardrobe thanks to its accessibility, affordability and above all the fit, which is perfect right off the shelf. Their second shipment hit stores today and while it's rooted mostly classic workwear as usual, a lot of it could easily be incorporated into any style really. The elusive navy chino, lightweight M65 in tan and duck twill vests are a few of my favourite pieces to go along with the quilted overshirts and Canadian military jackets, both Ransom staples. The quality of the outerwear leaves nothing to be desired especially for a line that's made overseas. The washed out selvedge denim from Portugal is nothing to scoff at either. Garbstore Country Shirt

I liked this shirt back when I saw it in the spring and I still do. The nice texture on the material feels and looks could while it creates a very casual over shirt. The double button pockets look sharp, along with the shrunken branding on the lower left. Patches and letters can easily go wrong as we've seen many times over at Rugby, but the Garbstore "G" manages to look nice and ads a slightly collegiate  feeling to the work wear inspired top. It's now available at Garbstore in London and on their brand new website. Porter Sanforized Denim Bags

Porter has a new collection of bags made up in a clean looking Sanforized denim. I'm not usually one to be excited for denim accessories, especially in a bag, but the two tote bags are looking rather nice. They also seem to fit a bottle of Stoli quite well. I actually have to admit that it's the new Porter tag stating the 'Sanforized - Japan Made' features that really does it for me. It looks perfect, great balance, nice colors and suits the bag nicely. It's surprisingly hard to make a good bag, but making a perfect tag might be even more of an accomplishment. Whether you want the bag because you like denim or can't go without that tag, you'll have to visit Beams to check them out.
