Nomad has been one of Canada's best menswear shops since they opened their doors in Toronto a few years ago. Today, they are still leading the way in Toronto and have just opened their second location in the city. Now taking up space on Queen St., the menswear shop brings their strong aesthetic and nice mix of goods to another area of town. If you're stopping by Toronto, it's definitely worth making it to at least one of their shops. I once had a 7 hour layover in Toronto and took a cab to the store and back; I didn't leave disappointed, or empty handed.

Arc'teryx Veilance Showcase

01 02

Words

This may not be breaking news as the showcase and installation were taken down a while ago, but it's definitely still worth a look. Firmament and Arc'teryx Veilance joined forces this fall and came up with a pretty impressive way to launch the fall collection from Canada. The water floor with 'floating' tile pathway looks insane for the interior of a shop, and the product is presented in the best form I have seen. This collection is really impressive, especially once you try everything on and get some use out of it. There are not many shops or brands that would go to this extent and I think both parties did a great job.

Visvim Serra & Keifer

Words

"What? I didn't know those were coming out?" That seems to be what I often exclaim when I see new Visvim products releasing, however it's more often than not in their F.I.L. locations. This time Surrender has brought in a couple of Visvim's more classic models; the Serra Hiker and the Keifer. Both models have been around for years and are offered this fall in some clean, sharp looking color options.

Post Overalls Tweed Mattalini Jacket

01

Images

—01. Made in USA.
—02. Tweed quilted wool.

Words

Post Overalls' fall outerwear selection usually features a few gems. This season's Mattalini jacket comes in a really nice tweed grey wool. Following the season's quilting theme, it makes for a great layering piece that looks nice but will also keep you warm. The tonal stitching and more subtle bar tacking work well and this style is a firm favorite of mine season after season.

Beams Plus Shetland Crews

01

Images

—01. Available in navy and grey.

Words

Beams Plus have always done a great job with classic garments. It's what the company's based on, whether it be importing or producing themselves, the end product is usually tough to beat. This fall Beams imported some of the finest traditional Shetland wool to make a couple of simple winter essentials. The only unfortunate thing is that these sweaters come up a little small, but for the folks they do fit, they're a great layering piece, perfect year after year.

MHL Wool Pea Coat

01

Images

—01. Grey blanket wool.
—02. Tartan plaid lining.

Words

This pea coat has been available all season, and if you're in the market for a double breasted coat, I would recommend snagging this one before its gone. The grey blanket wool is nice for the exterior; warm and comfortable. The lining is a nice subtle touch and the fit is classic for the style.

Paul McCobb Planner Group

Words

US born Paul McCobb as been a household name since the Planner Group series came to prominence in the 1950s. I learned about him recently when I asked Kyle Garner about some of his favorite designers, and the chairs in this series came up. My curiosity combined with an increasing interest in furniture lead me to some reading and the rest of the Planner Group series. It's a beautiful selection of pieces from the chairs to the storage units. The angles and round shapes he used makes them just as appealing today as they were 61 years ago when they came out. While they do go for a decent price, you can still find reasonable deals in bigger cities and even through eBay.

The Real McCoy's CPO Shirt

01

Images

—01. Reproduction CPO shirt.
—02. Anchor buttons.
—03. Made in Japan.

Words

CPO shirts are one of the best pieces to have around. They're warm, they look good and they can work well for about 3/4 of the year. Engineered Garments make my favorite version, but this fall The Real McCoy's made a great reproduction. With heavyweight wool, a nicely sized collar and pocket, it stays very true to the original, which is just what you want with an item like this.
