Words

After highlighting Très Bien's latest collection, we take a look at their Spring-Summer '15 campaign. Photographed by Linus Morales and styled by the label's designer, Hannes Hogeman, the images were art directed by Tony Cederteg in Malmö, the brand's hometown.

Words

In addition to a handful of jackets, End have just recieved a nice selection of shirting from the New York-based, Nepenthes affiliated label, Rough & Tumble. The short-sleeved, cut and sew button-ups come in a variety of options, and feature a blue and white palette alongside stripes, polkadots and gingham. Unique yet wearable, the cotton shirts have mother of pearl buttons, a curved hem taped at the rear, and are all made in the US.

Adonde at Totokaelo

Words

The modern and inspirational Seattle-based retailer, Totokaelo, always has an interesting selection of unique items in their Art-Object section. You can add the French company, Adonde, to that list, from which they have recently received a large selection of ceramic pieces. The modern forms fit perfectly on a shelf next to the shop’s other offerings, with the hallmark of these designs being vaguely futuristic vertical walls and solid colours that renounce the organic, handmade feel of other pottery and imbue these everyday objects with a decidedly contemporary feel.

Varela Versus at Howard St

Info

Howard St
3 Howard Street
New York, NY 10013
March 6 – April 5, 2015

Words

Varela Versus has one of the strangest concepts you'll come across in a gallery, claiming the art included revolves around a lawsuit between Ja Rule, MTV Cribs and some rich homeowner in Miami. And while this may seem absurd, it totally makes sense when you're walking around the show. Louis Eisner's lavish and twisted palace interior shots, Dylan Lynch's mangled modernist furniture, and Erika Ceruzzi's wonky Miami workout bars all help to make it a very transformative viewing experience. The show closes this weekend, so you have just enough time to check it out for yourself.

Other Nature by Ron Jude

Words

"In his previous book, Alpine Star, photographer and publisher Ron Jude appropriated and recast a collection of his hometown newspaper photographs as a cryptically humorous meditation on the grey area between personal history and collective memory. Jude's next series of photographs, Other Nature, adds a more intimate, diaristic strain to this line of inquiry, combining two separate sets of his own 4 x 5 color pictures (made between 2001 and 2008) to create a subtle and uncanny investigation of the 'slippery threshold of narrative' in still images. Drawing on the concerns of the New Topographics photographers, Jude's depictions of anonymous motel rooms and the stranger regions of the American landscape could, on first glance, be taken for an ecological critique."

Words

Although Engineered Garments aren't necessarily known for their T-shirts, they always produce a quality range of printed options, featuring a chest pocket, split hem and crossover collar. Made in Canada, the shirts have a nice feel and a good weight, while the graphic treatments allow Daiki's personality to shine through in a more playful way.

Paraboot at Gentry

Words

Up until recently Paraboot footwear was more widely available in Europe and Japan, but over the last couple of seasons it has started to make its way into select retailers in North America. In my fascination with the French shoemaker I’ve come across a large selection of styles and colours, but never these navy blue models with contrasting cream soles. Given the brand's fairly low profile on this side of the pond, it's a colourway that represents an especially unique choice.
