Makr Farm Tote

Words

When it comes to bags, it's tough to beat canvas and leather. And when it comes to totes, it's tough to beat Makr's Farm Bag. The simple, clean design is pretty much perfect and black canvas is often hard to come by. It looks fantastic with the tan coloured horse leather as well. As with most Makr products, the bag is well crafted in just a small run of 30.

Nitty Gritty Socks

Words

Warm weather generally means no socks for me, although it's nice to add a little bit of colour where you can and socks are a subtle & somewhat unexpected way to do so. Nitty Gritty have a number of great in-house options available which they've produced in association with Italian company Bresciani. They come in a variety of nice patterns, colours and materials that range from a great light blue cashmere cable knit, to a vibrant red striped rib cotton version. Both of which would look good between some Authentics and some khaki chinos perhaps. Some would say they're expensive for a pair of socks, but well made, proper fitting hosiery is one of the most underrated things there is.

Florence, Day Two

01

Details

—01. Shots from our day in and around Florence.

Words

Our first full day in Italy was packed with appointments at Pitti and followed up by a beautiful evening in the Tuscany countryside. Much of Pitti Uomo was as we expected, but still impressive and really interesting to see. From the sea of navy blue, driving shoes and white pants, we bumped into several friends, designers and shop owners; some it was great to meet for the first time and others nice to see again. The weather held off nicely and the sun came out in time to set over the vineyards in the country. The location, view, food and company couldn't have been better.

Mister Freedom Tripper Tote

01

Images

—01. An MF original pattern
—02. Each bag is lined with a different deadstock vintage fabric
—03. American 13.5oz selvedge denim

Words

I had my first trip to the beach this past weekend and suffice to say this Tripper tote from Mister Freedom would have been a much needed improvement over the recyclable Safeway shopping bag I ended up using. Made from deadstock, vintage American denim the bag has the perfect combination of characteristics in being nice and light yet sturdy and flexible. The great pocket configuration (one inner big enough to fit a macbook) means it's just as suitable for the sand as it is the classroom or cubicle too.

Florence

01

Details

—01. View from our temporary home in Florence.

Words

Simon and I arrived in Florence today for our first visit to Pitti Uomo. Our first buying appointments for the SS11 season are scheduled for tomorrow with Yuketen, Nigel Cabourn and Engineered Garments. While there are a number of other brands and people to meet with, we are especially excited for the upcoming day at the show. We were lucky enough to get a great apartment in the heart of Florence so we'll be checking out a few shops in between appointments as well. I'll be trying to give daily updates from the field so stay tuned for a couple of sneak peaks and news of what's happening at Pitti in general.

Bedwin Johnny Jacket

01

Images

—01. From Bedwin's "Rusholme Ruffians" collection
—02. Contrast pattern on collar's reverse
—03. Cuff lining detail

Words

A navy sport coat is something of a staple in most wardrobes and a nice light-weight version is especially valuable this time of the year. By nature, the garment is something that can mix and pair up well with virtually everything with little or no effort — so it's the details in the "Johnny" Jacket, from Japanese label Bedwin, that make it so appealing. The pattern on the back of the collar and at the cuff are prime examples. Both great if you're wearing it a little more casually, or as a layer. Similar to songs by The Smiths, as this collection was named after, the brushed cotton jacket looks subtle enough at first but upon further inspection is filled with character.

Our Legacy Caterpillar V-Neck

01

Details

—01. Made in Portugal.

Words

"The Caterpillar V-Neck is made in a very rare string that is treated and dyed naturally. The Yarn reminds us of pure indigo since it fades gently after being used. The string is called BRUCO (Caterpillar) and was common in the 80s, but in 100% polyester that created a feeling similar to a velvet knit. The Caterpillar knit is a blend of 70% linen and 30% cotton which is our updated version from the 80s. The purpose with this knit is a natural expression and each piece will differ in appearance."
