—01. Mr. Chris Gibbs - outside Union LA.
Words
Jake has been keeping his camera busy and while out in LA recently he captured one of the coolest guys around. Chris Gibbs is the owner of Union and is definitely a big influence on a lot of people and the way they thinking about getting dressed. Chris and his shop are definitely on another level from what’s been going on in North America and he is continuing to push forward. If you haven’t already picked it up, the first issue of Inventory also has an interview with Chris from when we visited him in LA as well.
Chris Gibbs,

Why is he giving us the finger?
Rude man
He wants to make his mind up, he's got about eight different styles going on.
jake davis is an utter douche, i bet he basis all his friendships on what people wear..zzz..
these people in my experience are the most boring one could meet
Does anyone else find these "Test Shots" utterly pretentious and cringeworthy?
Like the Afro-style shirt he has on. He was wearing it in the magazine.
Agree with Patrick

took the works outta my mouth
I do, Patrick. How many times does one have to vainly adjust their collar before it becomes adequate content for a short? This one is particularly embarrassing: grown man acts like a kid dressing up like a grown man.
I am with baz, Patrick, Jurgis, and Jorden. Double finger is juvenile.
nope, unfortunately......thats LA.
He also looks inappropriately dressed for the climate. When I had the misfortune to find myself in LA it was always rather warm. A chap would sweat in that many layers on a wet winter evening in the Royal County, let alone the supposed 'sunshine state'.

2 shirts and 2 jackets does seem a bit excessive for that weather...
...I do like how it looks though.
Jake Davies is a clown.
Douchebag...
Dack, those fingers might be for you.
Fellas fellas chill out.
If you hate it so much why comment or visit this website (why waste time). All of this snobbery by people who have not spoke to any of these people, but insist on speaking bad about them. I would suggest to find something else better to do then just posting hater post, there has to be something better to do. And if this is all you have to do in your life.....

respect to Union.
I find this particular excercise particularly cringe-worthy. It's a bit like watching someone on stage that's off key, but they think that they just nailed it. How's it possible for someone to try and adjust one's collar multiple times without actually adjusting it? Oh yeah, that's what I just saw while viewing this test shot.
WTF is going on with the "prayer shirt?"
Mad respect? I have a sneaking suspicion that the source of mad respect are the store clerks in and around Union. Btw, how does a store manager end up buying the shop? Oh, must've been all that sweat equity from having to wear all those layers in the LA heat.
Chris Gibbs is a good dude and has amazing style. He is probably giving the finger to all of the internet thugs. To all of the folks that check the blogs and then act like they are above the blogs they check.
I like to look at everything from a slightly critical angle; the personal nature of fashion blogs means I definitely don't agree with everything someone else regards as stylish. I give respect to a nice find and a subtle eye, but to me this is not that. The presentation, although very well edited, is unimaginatively vacuous of content and the subject belies his appearance by acting like an adolescent. Dressing with class means acting with a little too. No personal offense to this guy, but I think he might better suit 'dope' sneakers and a backwards baseball cap.
Why do you think that Jorden?
Maybe I'm looking too far into a couple of friends playing around, but I think if you're scripting a couple minutes of footage to tell people what your style is about and the best you can come up with is wearing five shirts and flipping off the camera, then maybe you could stand to mature a little bit, both creatively and fashionably.
As I said, Jake's skills in editing and putting this together are top notch, and I do like what Chris has put together regardless of its feasibility in LA weather, but for me, saying this is on 'another level' is like calling 'Jackass' performance art.
Sorry to drag this on, but after scanning the magazine article, I can see he is coming from somewhere quite different than me and I respect that. I just wish his background and style was more apparent than the image reducible from this short. It could be really interesting but instead it's a bit of a 'don't give a fuck' cliche.
