Words

Just opened and running until June 22nd at Gagosian's Madison Avenue gallery, this immense show features over 400 black and white photographs taken by Dennis Hopper between 1961 and 1967. These images have not been exhibited in the US since 1970, and the "cultural events, iconic individuals, and intimate moments that caught Hopper’s attention, constitute a panoramic view of the sixties that combines political idealism and humanistic optimism with California cool." The show is a must-see for those with an interest in "the establishment-busting spirit of the 1960s," but The Lost Album is also an accessible body of work, worthy of widespread attention.

Running for another week or so, Michael Dean's solo exhibition at Herald Street gallery in London, looks like a fine way to spend some time inside. The artist, from Newcastle upon Tyne in the north of England, is showing a range of pieces in various mediums, including sculptural work produced using concrete and glue.

Gerhard Richter Painting

Words

For some reason I missed seeing the documentary Gerhard Richter Painting, released in 2012. I finally took the time to watch it on Netflix, and it is an incredible and meditative portrait of one of the most gifted and recognized living artists; who's equally skilled in the styles of photo-real and abstract painting. I have loved his work ever since I realized it was his artwork on the cover of Daydream Nation, and it is inspiring to be a fly on the wall to his method in this film.

Words

The Maliseet oxford is one of my favorite styles from Quoddy and this light sand coloured suede atop the gum camp sole makes for a nice summer shoe.

Words

While I personally prefer the Workwear Jacket to the Blazer from Vetra, there are a handful of new colours available this season which make it slightly more appealing. It's offered in Postman, Sand, Olive, Dogstooth and Marine Ecru as well as the Navy already on the market.

Merz B. Schwanen Button Facing Shirt

Words

I mostly buy classic pieces, so I absolutely love Merz B. Schwanen's old world simplicity and their whole line of staples. The 100% cotton circular knit shirts have to be the softest hand going, and that means a whole lot more when almost all you make is undershirts.

Available at Red Wing Amsterdam
