Drakes Fall Goodies

When fall rolls in, I'm always happy to bring out a few warm accessories. Drakes is one of the best when it comes to scarves, ties, throws and any other small bits to get you through the colder, wetter months. Their classic designs have taken on a few interesting twists in recent seasons but the palette is always great and its tough to find much wrong with anything they produce. Sure, you might be able to find some of these items for cheaper, but they probably wouldn't be as good.

While the summer scarf might not be an essential for everyone, Drakes continue to expand their warm weather range this season with a nice collection of silk gingham options. When it comes to gingham, it’s pretty tough to beat red or navy, so it’s no surprise that these are my favorites. C’HC’M’ just received these along with some nice polka dot patterned scarves as well.

Drakes Shetland Wool Vests

Drakes Fair Isle vest Lately I've been especially attracted to Drakes knitwear. The brands has been producing some of the finest accessories around for a long time but I've never particularly known them for their soft garments. These two Shetland wool vests are great pieces to have in your closet for every winter. Whether you're a fan of the V-neck or the crew, Drakes have both styles covered. Where these items are usually done best by companies like Jamieson's, Drakes have slightly refined the classic knitwear and they came out great. The use of colour and patterns look just right and would do well to break up a blazer and BD shirt or even a more formal suit.

Striped Scarves

S.N.S. Herning NAVAL Scarf Stripes, stripes and more stripes. Whether it's on a shirt, sweater, hat or scarf – it's great. Crew neck knitwear seems to be the best way to incorporate stripes into daily wears but a scarf can be just as useful and a easier way to play with a bit more colour. The red stripes in particular have caught my eye recently as S.N.S. Herning and Drakes have both produced excellent versions this winter. I think Drakes red and black has a heavier feel to it and although it is quite nice and would play well with others, I can't help but think of the red and white stripes with a blue chambray shirt. It feels like the perfect match and if you've got a navy or olive layer on top you're in great shape. Saint James also have a handful of striped scarves for great prices. — Drakes 'Merino Wool' Scarf Scarf RayeeS.N.S. Herning NAVAL Scarf-2 S.N.S. Some Gifts to Give

gifts Well, I'm taking a bit of an easy way out on this post. I'm sure many readers are running around stressed out what to send to Owen, Simon or myself for gifts to say thanks for another year of blogging, right? Maybe not, but if so these are a few things I'd love to get. Particularly the Drakes knit tie and the Monocle x Porter Tote bag have been on my list for months now and I guess I'm still waiting. I think in general there are lots of little things around this year that are great, and would be great to have. The Hill-Side have some great items that work well as gifts too - so if you're still trying to get your brother something that you can "borrow" – it's the crafty thought that counts...

Drakes for Monocle

drakes_4 These scarves aren't really that new and definitely aren't news - but they are really nice. I've been almost solely relying on my Drakes boiled wool scarf this fall and couldn't be happier about the purchase. Drakes have got the process down over the years and this fall have put together some great colour options of their own in their boiled wool. The mismatched tartans were a great idea, but I do particularly like the tones Monocle have put together. Unfortunately for me, I often don't even think about scarves until I'm walking around in an icy breeze and wishing I had just made the purchase when it was in front of me. For £95 you're not looking at a bargain, but there are far more expensive things out there that aren't as functional and good looking. — drakes_3drakes_2

LOOK | Light Rain

Look | Light Rain The weather has been cold and dry lately which really doesn't feel like Vancouver in December, but I'm not complaining. I was starting to get used to the light rain and I know it's not far off again, so when the temperature jumps up a couple degrees and the clouds come back, this is a likely weather cross-over look. The desert boots are a great all season shoe and due to their tough manor and fair price, you really don't need to hold back from giving them a good beating, rain included. The Wolf colourway is one of my favorites and they look perfect with the dark burgundy of the cords. The S.N.S. Herning STARK cardigan is really the main piece of the outfit. I've probably tried this sweater on 3 or 4 times in the last week and I'm going to regret not snagging it if it sells out - I already know it. It fits perfect and has a great weight and colour. I'm a big fan of the collar and feel like it could easily become a favorite sweater. Margaret Howell's shirting was great this fall and there are a number I would have liked to bring home. This soft plaid ties the colours of the look together nicely and is nice for daily wear - and why not bring some reading along. — Drakes Umbrealla SNS Herning STARK Cardigan Engineered Garments Workaday Cords Margaret Howell Plaid Shirt JS Homestead Socks Clarks Desert Boots INVENTORY Volume 01 Number 01

Drakes Lambswool Crewneck

drakes crew -1 Drakes have stepped up their knitwear game this fall with a couple of beautiful sweaters. While the cashmere cardigan may have been a little pricey, this great looking crew neck is slightly more attainable, but still something special. Made in Scotland from 100% Lambswool, the 2 ply crew neck is really a great looking item for fall, winter, spring or any other time you can wear it without being too warm. The classic stripe pattern is nicely complimented by the brown suede elbow patches on all of the colours. If you'd prefer to be stripe-less, you can also check out Albam's version in a similar aesthetic, available here. — drakes crew -2drakes crew -3drakes crew -4
