Marcelo Gomes – Glass House

Our latest issue features an article about the Harvard Five – a group of mid-century architects who lived and worked in the Connecticut town of New Canaan. The Glass House by Philip Johnson is one of the group's most internationally recognized works, and, as the last days of summer gave way to the first of fall, photographer Marcelo Gomes shot a series of colourful and vibrant photographs of the building and its expansive grounds.

EG SS14 by Manabu Gaku Inada 

In July Engineered Garments presented their first ever fashion show, featuring clothing from their Spring-Summer ’14 collection. Hosted at the New York Nepenthes store, the show was documented by filmmaker Manabu Gaku Inada. The resulting film offers not only a look at the show itself, but also a glimpse behind the scenes, and at the various processes that were required to make this landmark event such a well-received success.

Rose Bowl

When California’s legendary Rose Bowl swap meet, the flea market to end all flea markets, officially opens for early admission at 7am, the masses are already lined up, huddled in shawls and piled-on sweaters, pushing granny carts, vibrating with anticipation; the past’s future caged behind tall metal arches bearing imperious gates. Workers, Okayama

In November of 2011, we took the Shinkansen from Tokyo to visit the designer Takashi Tateno in his hometown of Okayama. Having long been admirers of his brand, Workers, we were excited for the day that lay ahead. Aside from following his work online, or spotting the occasional piece on the back of an acquaintance, this was our first opportunity to see the full range garments and meet the man behind the cult brand.

Shino Takeda Studio Visit

Shino Takeda grew up in Japan on the southern island of Kyusho, where, by way of her family and community, she was surrounded by a rich history in ceramics and art. It was only after relocating to New York City that Shino began creating pottery under her own name, and by doing so began to pursue a profession that was deeply rooted in the Japanese traditions of her past.
