Paul Sharits Dream Displacement at Greene Naftali

Info

Greene Naftali
508 West 26th Street
8th Floor
New York, NY 10001
September 3 – October 3, 2015

Words

Paul Sharits' 1976 film Dream Displacement serves as the focus of this recently-opened solo show at Greene Naftali, which runs until October 3rd. Sharits was part of a group of experimental artists who emerged in the 1960s as the structural film school – a small but influential movement that has long had the gallery's support. This exhibition, co-presented by the Anthology Film Archives, features the looped multi-projector 16mm print of Dream Displacement alongside a selection of paintings and reference material.

Porter Satin Focus Backpack

Images

02. Made in Japan.

Words

Fashion products that have a shiny black finish as well as matte black hardware rarely fail to have a futuristic look, and this pack is no exception. On top of its Akira concept art aesthetic, it also sports some of Porter's most durable fabric, which make it even more appealing, and even more practical.

Our Legacy Autumn-Winter '15 Collection "TEN"

Words

"The Our Legacy Autumn-Winter '15 Collection "TEN" marks a decade in the business for the Swedish brand. Surveilling the schoolyard with a telephoto lens the collection and accompanying lookbook are studies on youth culture and subcultural style and reference. The fall collection is a mixtape with something for everyone, sampling past, present and future from the 10 years worth of collections. Mixing 70s/80s/90s pop cultural references, hippies, skinheads, techies and club kids are seen side by side. In the new "TEN" lookbook, shot by Erik Wåhlström and art directed by Andreas Doré, these groups are crystallized and up for analysis. Encouraging diversity, everything is eventually mixed in the real life collection, creating our own subtle subculture."

When All Of My Friends Are On At Once – Memories of Being Online

Info

Organized by Gene McHugh
Art by Juan Amaya
Design by Beautiful Company

Words

When All Of My Friends Are On At Once is a bit like an online journal, with Gene McHugh as its guardian, and many of the art world's brightest up-and-comers as its contributors. Each artist was asked to share their first memories of being online, and the result is a varied and often highly personal collection of stories that I think most of us can relate to in some capacity. Artist Cameron Soren personally reminded me of the time I looked up Tupac's coroner's report on Rotten.com, but maybe reading about Tyler Coburn's successful Sailor Moon website will jog a few of your online memories.

Nanamica Hybrid Cycling Vest

01

Image

01. Two-way zip closure.

Words

This classic zip-up down vest from Nanamica looks perfectly basic, but includes a few subtle details that make it even more useful in cold weather. Firstly, the body is cut from a stretch wool blend that helps with ease of movement to prevent restriction when layering. The most interesting feature, however, would have to be the technological advancements in insulation provided by the use of Kodenshi photoelectron down. The fibre that fills the Hybrid Cycling Vest absorbs infrared body heat and redirects it back to the wearer, providing a reassuring retention of warmth when it is needed most.
