O-Check Design Graphics

01

Words

Back when we were opening our store, we went on a hunt for a nice looking stapler for our check out desk. We really didn't find what we were after, but we ended up with a great industrial version, which ended up working perfectly. For home and in the office however, it was a little overboard. My search came to an end this week when I found one by O-Check Design Graphics at Old Faithful. The Korean company makes a great selection of staplers, hole-punchers, pencils, rulers and other useful office tools. With a clean design and affordable price, they are pretty ideal for just about anybody who likes their functional items to also look good.

Last Few Months

01

Images

—01. I Want That, shot at Old Faithful.

Words

Another few months gone by, another couple of rolls back. I think I like looking at some of these past shots as they don't feel nearly as stressful and strenuous as the last couple of months have been. Most of the shots are from around the shop, my home and Vancouver. One thing I do miss from this time was the weather, especially now that it seems to be regularly freezing outside.

Tenue de Nîmes & London Undercover

Words

It's definitely the time of year to have an umbrella handy at all times. For some reason I've never actually purchased one that will last me, although I often wish I had. There are some great classic options out there, but if you're after something a little more unique, Tenue de Nîmes have teamed up with London Undercover to produce this denim umbrella. The design is subtle and the materials look nice, but are still functional. I actually like the small illustrations as well, done by Hiyoko Imai.

Present Wool Crusiers

Words

Present have been working hard over the last year to develop a solid range of products under their own brand name. We got a sneak peek back in the summer and even then, the Crusier jacket was a stand out for me. The jackets are made from warm wools, feature nice quilting through the body and arms and come in at a nice price as well. The tones and fabrics look great, classic and very wearable too. Within the collection there are a few more items that are well worth checking out as well, but I wouldn't wait around too long on these.

North Face Purple Label Mountain Jacket

01

Images

Words

It feels like the anticipation for North Face Purple Label to break into the western market is building. I would imagine it's only a matter of seasons now, so hopefully this jacket is still in the collection by then. Coming in beige and burgundy, it has a number of great looking design aspects from the buttons to the collar to the pocketing. The burgundy would definitely be my choice, and it's even available in sizes up to XL for those willing to order from Japan.

Engineered Garments Worsted Wool Vest

01

Images

—01. Nice cut through the body.
—02. Thick, grey wool.

Words

The Engineered Garments collection is so large that it's hard to find or see every great item in one store. One of the nice accenting pieces this fall is this vest in a grey worsted wool. The fabric makes it for me. It's thick, has a great texture and is very much a winter item. It's probably the easiest model to wear of their waistcoat options and the tone would layer well with plaid, navy or tan.

Bag'n'Noun

—02. 'Napsac'.

Words

It doesn't feel like there are a lot of canvas bag companies that I haven't heard of, at least that I would like. When I popped into Old Faithful the other day, their suspended canoe was filled with a recent shipment of Bag'n'Noun products, and I immediately had to ask what they were. The Japanese made bags are pretty simple, well made and come in some nice fabrics. This duck canvas was my favorite, but Old Faithful has also brought in a nice looking chocolate brown canvas. The products are pretty well priced and look and feel great - the 'napsac' also comes in two sizes so the variety of options is perfect too.

Supreme Editorial

Words

There have been a good handful of Supreme editorials this fall, each of them very well executed. I wouldn't expect anything less from the NY brand, the subtle variety and use of legendary photographers is impressive. This editorial shot for Warp magazine by Ari Marcpoulos is my favorite however. The use of tone, motion and the styling all came together really nicely to capture a great atmosphere.
