Book / Shop is a new project undertaken by the always insightful and well-read Erik Heywood: "We're committed to the reading experience. The surprise of one page turning to the other. The little luxury of sitting in a great reading chair, inhaling the scent of a beautifully made book. The luscious heft of three or four good reads in a sturdy bookbag as you head out into the world. The hundred discoveries waiting at a used bookstore; the refuge of a library. In addition to books, we'll offer those irresistible things that go along with them; things like bookcases and reading chairs, reading lamps and bookplates, bookbags and book-related artworks. We believe that a well-made reading environment encourages us to take our time, to have those experiences with books that modern life tries to replace with a rush of empty conveniences."

You see alot of these reading related furniture and stuff now, but do people who buy these things really read? And people who throw in some modernist novel in their daily outfit collage on their blogs, "Hmm... what novel to carry around for everyone to see today?" Liked the bookcase though...

In case you haven't noticed Manitou: These modernist novels, like the Richard Serra one above, happen to coincide with modernist architecture and design. Thus furniture is revealed! The experience and space one educates him or her in is essential. But you're right. Maybe you should pick up a book and educate yourself before you make judgements upon the idea of someone buying a bookcase when they 'don't read'. Ridiculous...

AND so it goes on----Dont worry Manitou, most people agree with you.
