Manastash is another one of those outdoor brands that have seen success in Japan, but only recently have cracked into the western markets. The bright color blocking, technical fabrics and Japanese take on North American outdoors is a proven winning combination. The brand originally launched in the 90s in Seattle, but is now garnering a more casual market in North American and Europe - they'll be showing for the first time at Capsule NY next week.

I began Manastash while going in school in the 90's, inspired by Patagonia Outdoor Clothing . I loved their concept of clothing with a purpose, a conscious effort to help people and environment.

Here is a great quote from Yvon Chouinard:
‎"the hardest thing in the world is to simplify your life. its so easy to make it complex. most of the damage caused by humans is done unintentionally. a solution for many of the worlds problems is to turn around and to take a forward step. you can't keep trying to make a flawed system work."

Most had not heard of hemp clothing back in 1993 and environmentalism, conservation was not the word of the day. Our store Manastash banner read:

"Only after the last tree has been cut down,
Only after the last river has been poisoned,
Only after the last fish has been caught,
Only than will you realize that money cannot,
be eaten." ~Cree Proverb
