Directed by Manabu Gaku Inada.
Gaku Inada met Daiki Suzuki four years ago, when they began surfing together as part of a group of friends who'd meet regularly and drive out to the beach before dawn. They'd spend the hour-long trip discussing everything from '80s New York art culture to music, their families, fashion and the day's surf conditions. From those conversations Gaku became interested in discovering what his surfing colleague did outside of their early mornings at the beach, and arranged to film Daiki as he worked on his clothing line, Engineered Garments. This outsider's view of Suzuki’s unique approach – “not designed but engineered” – is the subject of the above short film, recently released by Inada Studio.
