Words

Australian experimentalist, Oren Ambarchi, has long been exploring a world of sonic discovery, wielding his guitar in unorthodox ways and making sounds normally not akin to the omnipresent stringed instrument. His latest record, Quixotism, recorded on four continents, is a collaboration with numerous experimental luminaries and pairs his unique approach to guitar playing with a vast array of instruments – from drums and electronics to a more unconventional deployment of contact mics and brushes. Quixotism is a densely layered exploration of intricate sonic textures, and as such deserves to be played loudly to fully appreciate the world of tonality contained in this singular piece, broken into five parts. Already released digitally on the Editions Mego website, the LP can be expected to drop on March 3rd, but can also be preordered now.

Great stuff. Happy to hear Ambarchi incorporate more rhythmic experiments in his work considering his origins in free jazz percussion. I think it fits really nicely with his guitar tones and washes and marks a progression from his work with Touch. Nice also to see a shoutout to the Don after his previous allusion to one of Spanish language lit's finest.
