These photographs, by way of An Ambitious Project Collapsing, were taken on Riccardo Cassin's first assent of Mount McKinley's South Face in 1961. This photo album was given to the American Alpine Club by Bradford Washburn in 2005, after Washburn himself had received it from Mr Cassin. The South Face, which is now known as Cassin Ridge in Riccardo's honor, is the best known technical route on the mountain, and the climb was a major landmark in Alaskan mountaineering. Cassin himself was a leading Italian mountaineer, who's prominence in the inter-war period led to over 2,500 assents, over 100 of which were firsts.
