Mountain Research X3 W.F. Stole

Words

Mountain Research produce these cotton scarves every season, and they always feature an interesting bandana or floral print. This one is particularly good, however, as it offers you the choice of both a blue and a white side.

Woolrich Woolen Mills Watch Cap

Words

Most seasons I tend to pick up something small from a collection that perhaps appeals, but maybe doesn't bowl me over directly enough to make a substantial purchase. I have a few things here and there that fall into this category, and this Watch Cap from Mark McNairy's Fall '11 Woolrich Woolen Mills collection would seem an ideal candidate for this season's contender. The large text placement won't be for everyone, but the hat is relatively affordable, easily wearable, and available in two classic colours.

Engineered Garments Hooded Down Vest

—01. Large drawstring hood.
—02. 90% Goose Down interior.

Words

Almost every season there's something I see early on, most likely in lookbooks or online, that I pass over on initial examination; only to reassess my opinion when I rediscover the piece in the flesh. The first time I saw this particular vest I wasn't too taken with the hood detail, and so, not being much of a vest wearer in the first place, didn't spend too much time analyzing its appeal. I have, however, spent a moment or two reexamining it recently; and my initial stance is slowly beginning to waver. Although I keep visualizing both outfits and opportunities I might have for the vest itself, I probably won't ever make up my mind which colour I prefer; which luckily for me also means I won't ever have to take back all those misguided things I might have once said.

Garbstore Navy Split Mod Flight Shirt

Garbstore Navy Split Mod Flight Shirt The Bureau has been filling their shelves and online shop with some great items over the last couple of weeks and the first deliver from Garbstore has a couple more nice items. I am definitely a fan of some simple colour blocking and this Mod shirt does it well with a couple of muted tones. The shirt is simple, has nice buttons, solid pockets and would be very easy to wear for a light spring over shirt/jacket.

Garbstore Mountain Providence Parka

GarbstoreParka Garbstore have just put out this 'special edition' version of their Mountain Providence Parka and it might just be the best version yet. I've always liked the cut and details of the parka and the green/tan option was one of the better jackets of the season in my opinion. This royal blue lined with a great japanese flannel looks even more fantastic though. The blue works really well with the white pull cords which I love here and the plaid offers something unique compared to the usual ripstop lining. While it might seem a bit bright, I think it'd be a very easy jacket to pull off. The royal can be worn over any other shade of blue from navy to soft and in any form from a wool suit to a chambray shirt. The various colours in the plaid mean that wearing different reds or greys would work too.

Garbstore: The Indigo Farm Factory

SEWING8 Garbstore's collections continue to improve and grow and the brand has began to tell its story a little better. While many brands are concentrating on stateside production, Garbstore is proud to manufacture their garments in southern China. It's not a matter of finding the cheapest production or a reaction to the rest of the market, rather the way Ian Paley and his brand can manufacture the precise garments and range they would like to. While China has caught a bad rap thanks to big box chains that value quantity over all else, there are more than a few high quality factories operating – one being The Indigo Farm in Guang Dong province. Garbstore's design pays particular attention to vintage French and British garments their current collections are inspired from. By using machines that are decades old, buying Japanese fabrics and using specialty Chinese factories like the Indigo Farm, they are able to bring together a cohesive aesthetic that is made well and can retail for a fair price. After speaking to Mr. Paley, you get a good feeling about the brand and the relationships he's had for a decade in Asia. I personally feel there is still something special about producing in Canada or the USA, but the same can be said for Japan or the UK, so why not China? — SEWING5SEWING17SEWING11SEWING9SEWING4

Garbstore Warden Coat

grabstore-warden-coatGarbstore has reproduced the classic English Warden Coat taking reference from the original dating from 1956. The heavy canvas his stitched up with bar tacks everywhere possible and should be able to handle most duties of the modern day jail guard. Garbstore's fall collection is probably the best yet and this is one of my favorite pieces. The color is perfect and would be great for layering on a work shirt this winter. The brand's design and production are all being refined notably between seasons and it's easy to see with a browse through the current offering online. We've still yet to see much Garbstore product in North America, but we will see if that remains the case for long.
