With the heat of summer in full effect around the world, even in Vancouver, a lot of people are on the hunt for the perfect lightweight summer shirt. With that in mind, we've just updated the Stockroom with the striped version of our latest collaboration with Gitman Bros. The navy and grey options are classic and subtle, very soft, and the lightweight Japanese organic cotton is perfect for this time of year. The blue gingham shirts have been flying off the shelves so I wouldn't expect the stripes to be around for long either.

In Stock: Gitman Bros. for Inventory Items

After a long wait we're pleased to start 2010 with one of our most anticipated Inventory Items, the BD shirt by Gitman Bros. The American shirt makers have become a household name in the last two seasons and continue to move forward with a growing variety of fabrics and collars - but one thing remains the same, they are great shirts. Working with US producers has definitely opened our eyes to the difficulties of small run production and making sure the details get through from our Vancouver HQ to the factory in Ashland. While it will always be a learning process, we are extremely pleased with the end result and our winter shirting. The washed navy blue oxford is perfectly broken in and wrinkled and has been a surprisingly tough colour to find in a 2-ply oxford cloth. While the chambray BD was the more difficult of the two to achieve, the final shirts turned out really nice. We had decided awhile back to go with the white stitching on the blue chambray as it felt more natural and came down to personal taste. We had planned on a chest button as well, but unfortunately it became one of the casualties of cross continent communication. The chalk buttons compliment the chambray nicely while the synthetic pearl buttons look sharp on the navy blue oxford. Our red stitch subtly sits on the back of the neck and the scalloping came in at the perfect height. Gitman Bros. for Inventory Items

If you've picked up Inventory magazine or have been paying attention to the Stockroom, you might know that we have some Gitman Bros. shirts on the way. It's definitely later than we'd hoped to have them, but ordering the custom fabrics and having to tweak the body and gussets added to the rigid time line. Anyways, better late than never and the shirts are now on their way to our HQ and we couldn't be more excited. Gitman Vintage has quickly become one of the best known oxford shirt suppliers around the world, and for good reason. The shirts have a great fit, are made in the USA, they're tough and they just look great. I don't need to go into the details of why Gitman makes good shirts - but our shirts are particularly good as we've made up a couple fabrics that we couldn't find in the cut we wanted. The navy oxford cloth is a great year-round weight and colour. Although working nicely with dark winter tones, the light coloured buttons keep the shirt very versatile. The chambray BD was just what we needed and offer a great alternative to EG's 19th Century, which has a more boxy, traditional fit. Our chambray is easy to wear and works perfectly with a casual tie. We also tweaked the gusset on the body to find the right height and a great aesthetic. We aren't accepting any more pre-orders for the shirts, but we're hoping they will be available in the Inventory Stockroom by the end of the week. Note: The final chambray has white stitching throughout and unfortunately didn't show up with the chest pocket button. —
