MHL Printed Stripes

The striped tee is one of the most simple and effective summer items to have on hand. I was about to write something about Saint James short sleeve versions but this nice little offering from MHL just popped up at Honyee. The soft colors offer a great palette and allow you to play with something a little brighter like the red or something more classic like the blue. I would happily have each one of these and wear them regularly for the next 6 months.

While the Margaret Howell collection continues to improve and be one of the most impressive season after season, their place in the Japanese market can’t be overlooked. With their strong retail presence comes the push for more items and unfortunately some of the great pieces only get released overseas, even with great hometown shops in London. These cotton drill trousers from the MHL line are really nice looking and have a number of details I’m often looking for.

—01. Canoe Mocs in Peanut Grizzly leather, coming soon.

Words

With the exception of a few rainy stints, the good weather has continued through the last week. I’ve even ventured out with no sweater and jacket a couple times, trying to coax the sun to come a little closer. I really like the natural tones with a small hit of pattern by this Engineered Garments polka dot belt. The reverse sateen is really a great fabric for the pants as well, and the new Irving trouser suits it really well. Otherwise, it’s nice and simple; a white BD shirt, casual hat to throw on and one of the more peculiar bags from Porter filled with the days essentials – which Simon had made note of a little while back. I also find that each summer I generally have one pair of mocs that take a firm beating, canoe mocs are one of the easiest choices.

Baracuta for Margaret Howell

Margaret Howell x Baracuta ss10 For the most part Baracuta's collaborations and the end products have all be great. Working with Beams, Junya Watanabe and Margaret Howell alone are some of the best names in the world, add in J.Crew on their current run and there are some great looking G9s and G4s available. I particularly like this light color, light weight version for Margaret Howell. The lining is a nice change of pace and sits perfectly with their woven labels. It's an interesting choice to go with the G3 model but this color lends itself well to a year round wear while being the ideal layer for the months ahead.

Margaret Howell Typhoon Hat

Margaret Howell Typhoon 1 Margaret Howell's spring collection is another one of the strongest of the season in my opinion. Simon recently outlined the collection with some well-styled looks and focus on the casual silhouettes that Margaret has perfected over the years. One of the items that stood out in my memory from viewing the collection in Paris last summer was the Typhoon hat. It's a very simple item and I believe it's made from a light weight linen-cotton feeling blend. It sits really naturally and looks great. I find that sun hats and buckets are very tough to find and when you do they still don't work more often than not. This definitely seemed to conquer both issues and when I saw it last week I was pleasantly reminded how nice it looked. — Margaret Howell Typhoon 2

Margaret Howell Spring–Summer '10

Margaret Howell - SS10-1 You can always find a variety of images surrounding a new Margaret Howell collection, but I particularly like the ones from the show. The styling is perfect and that extra sense of movement works really well too. For those who have embraced the brand and understand the depth in its simplicity, this is a collection that offers a lot. This season the focus was on creating garments with a relaxed feeling and an effortless appearance. As always, this was achieved through a considered approach to fabric, but also emphasized with a series of wider silhouettes. This is complimented by the styling in these pictures which was inspired by film director and visual artist Derek Jarman. These kind of collections may require you to look a little deeper than usual, but therein lies the charm and appeal of Margaret Howell's entire aesthetic. We'll have more on the brand in the forthcoming issue of INVENTORY - I interviewed Margaret a little while ago, and James will be shooting some portraits and an editorial in the next couple of weeks. Until then, enjoy the new collection in its entirety. — Margaret-Howell-SS10-1Margaret-Howell-SS10-2Margaret-Howell-SS10-3Margaret-Howell-SS10-4Margaret-Howell-SS10-5Margaret-Howell-SS10-6Margaret-Howell-SS10-7Margaret-Howell-SS10-8Margaret-Howell-SS10-9Margaret-Howell-SS10-10

LOOK | Light Rain

Look | Light Rain The weather has been cold and dry lately which really doesn't feel like Vancouver in December, but I'm not complaining. I was starting to get used to the light rain and I know it's not far off again, so when the temperature jumps up a couple degrees and the clouds come back, this is a likely weather cross-over look. The desert boots are a great all season shoe and due to their tough manor and fair price, you really don't need to hold back from giving them a good beating, rain included. The Wolf colourway is one of my favorites and they look perfect with the dark burgundy of the cords. The S.N.S. Herning STARK cardigan is really the main piece of the outfit. I've probably tried this sweater on 3 or 4 times in the last week and I'm going to regret not snagging it if it sells out - I already know it. It fits perfect and has a great weight and colour. I'm a big fan of the collar and feel like it could easily become a favorite sweater. Margaret Howell's shirting was great this fall and there are a number I would have liked to bring home. This soft plaid ties the colours of the look together nicely and is nice for daily wear - and why not bring some reading along. — Drakes Umbrealla SNS Herning STARK Cardigan Engineered Garments Workaday Cords Margaret Howell Plaid Shirt JS Homestead Socks Clarks Desert Boots INVENTORY Volume 01 Number 01

Margaret Howell Cable Cardigan Knit

Margaret Howell cable cardigan I've been on the look out for light weight cardigans lately as I could use a few more layering pieces as the cool weather sets in. Margaret Howell is usually a sure bet for the job and this fall is no different. Their cable knit cashmere cardigan is one of the nicest looking I've seen online. It comes in navy and grey and a regular fit body. There aren't many pairings that looks as good as an oxford and a cardigan in the fall, and these soft classic looking versions are as good as it gets. I'm not usually one to drop the money for cashmere, but the perfectly balanced design and general feeling of these sweaters make me consider otherwise. Margaret Howell cable cardigan-1
