Mjolk A/W 2009

mjolk h(y)r collective favourite Mjolk by Lars Stoten recently finished up a successful Paris showing of the upcoming Autumn-Winter collection. Entitled "Cameras For Eyes and Horses For Hearts." It is a collection of garments which have been given the customary Mjolk twist in tailoring and finishing. Like the fall landscape, the line is presented in muted earthy tones of brown, grey, navy and oatmeal with hints of yellow, red and blue here and there. Aesthetically the line is nice as usual but it also looks super cozy for the fall which I'm into. I'm impressed again with how good the suiting looks for a ready to wear line, the jackets seem near perfect and the fit of the trousers looks awesome. Other standouts for me are the herringbone overcoat, the cream merino wool knit sweater and all the accessories, those packs are amazing. mjolk1mjolk2

Mjolk F/W 09

First off, I have to apologize to Lars because these photos really don't do the collection justice. You need to feel, touch and try on Mjolk to see it in the state it was created for. The fall items from Mjolk again had a very playful essence with some feminine tones, great colors and interesting cuts. Some of my favorite items on the racks were 'Daniel's winter coat' (with optional ribbon), The worn Guildford aged backpack and 'Pop's pull-over jacket'. The pull over jacket looks really nice in what seemed to be a wool herringbone. There were some very nice oxfords, wool trousers, pleated denim and even some nice looking double-breasted action on a cropped coat. I would still say it would take a fairly confident man to wear the collection and would encourage most people to take that step. My only problem with Mjolk still is that it's very difficult to find. Retailers need to step it up and not buy scared in these times if you want to step ahead and move forward. Mjolk is definitely a brand to get behind. I really feel like there is something special about the collections by Lars Stoten.

This Spring/Summer

There are a lot of great looking collections surfacing for the spring. Our Legacy, Nom de Guerre, Kitsune, Mjolk, Band of Outsiders, Engineered Garments among others are looking really great. But when it comes down to the hot weather, this is what I will probably be wearing. I like simple things. I like white tees and oxfords. While this chap's shirt might be a little less fitted than mine, this is pretty much what I am going to live in come summer time. The oxford shirt has really become like my T shirt for the most part. Of course it doesn't work as well for layering, but for throwing on the chinos, denim, slacks or shorts - an oxford does the trick. I feel really comfortable, never under or overdressed and I think it looks good. For the in between months of spring, jackets and slacks from these mentioned labels will fill the spaces and patterns for me. I know it's not really that exciting but a great pair of loafers, oxfords or sneakers paired with a wrinkled oxford shirt is enough for me.
