Nigel Cabourn Submarine Knit

Words

I can't believe this sweater hasn't sold out everywhere. I suppose it's not the cheapest on the market, but it's surely one of the best this fall. It's made with a beautiful navy merino wool and the neck is cut just right - an absolute nautical classic.
"Fairly fitted and extremely soft, Nigel Cabourn's Submarine knit is a new style for this season featuring a small chest pocket and hidden pouch pocket across the front. The tubular neck is cut in classic Guernsey style and the cuffs and hem are ribbed to keep the cold at bay."

Nigel Cabourn Fall Cameraman

Words

Nigel Cabourn has been picking up steam in terms of press and hype in the last couple of seasons, but without question this fall's collection measures up to that. Nigel always offers an incredible selection of outerwear, but the Cameraman is probably one of his most sought after, wearable and iconic pieces. Available in navy and army, the combination of Mackintosh and Harris Tweed is at its finest this season.

Nigel Cabourn 4-Way Rollneck

01

—01. Made in England.

Words

"Originally made using authentic Colonial Wool, woven straight from the sheep to give a coarse and natural handle to the garment. This piece is inspired by the jumper worn by Tom Bourdillion who was famously pictured wearing it inside-out."

This fall's 4-way rollneck sweater is one of the stand out items in one of Nigel's best collections to date. A big part of that is how directly some of the pieces are inspired by his 2003 Ascent collection. This sweater has a great texture and although the wool has a bit of a rough hand, you can tell it will age and wear beautifully. It also happens to be one of the best priced items this season, which is great considering the quality.

Nigel Cabourn Everest Parka

Words

One of Nigel Cabourn's most iconic pieces is back this fall. The Everest Parka was originally part of his 2003 Edmund Hillary inspired Ascent collection, and has been one of the more anticipated jackets this season. Like many others, I didn't see the original collection in the flesh so there's a certain mystic to buy into with an item like this. The whole FW10 collection is very strong, but the stand out orange jacket is key to the Cabourn story.

Words

Nigel Cabourn is definitely one of our favorite brands, and one of our favorite people. He's the type of character you never forget meeting. He's always got a story, and whether it's about a past collection or how he achieved the vintage wash on his summer suit, they're always entertaining. Joachim Baan from Anothersomething and Journal de Nimes recently had the chance to stay with him in Newcastle, find out more about his collection for SS11 and take some photos of Nigel in his natural habitat.

Nigel Cabourn Medical Shirt

Nigel Cabourn SS10 Medical Shirt It's probably one of the most expensive shirts I've blogged about, but it's also one of the nicest. I decided to keep one for myself while trying it on and taking measurements today, so there is one less available now. The mix of cotton and linen, navy gingham and contrast patches and a great fit was too much to deny. The fabric feels great and the tones go well with a lot of the items I already have. The Medical shirt has changed since it's original appearance in the Cabourn collection, but I would have a hard time imagining it's changed for the worse, however our London director would be the one to ask. The fit is surprisingly good for a Japan-made item as well. The sleeves and shoulders fit great and the length is quite nice as well. It's now available in the Inventory Stockroom with a couple of other new items.

Look: Earth Tones

Earth Tones Around these parts it's deceivingly nice out. You look out the window and the sun is shining bright and there's blue skies abound, but then you walk outside you get a wake-up call. The air is crisp and cold and I've been caught out with just a shirt on a couple of times and it hasn't been pleasant so I've started doubling up. A warmer wool shirt over a nice simple check shirt creates for a nice contrast and the Warehouse x Free & Easy version in brown is one of my favourite shirts in recent memory. I think it works really well with the cream coloured Cabourn Medical shirt. Throw the down vest on there for some more warmth as well as lightening things up with the tan and yellowy shoulders. The boots, gloves and glasses help tie it all together and add a few more tones which is what this look is all about. This was a look I originally put together for Brennan Woods' series The Aesthete, check out more from various other bloggers here.

Want: Nigel Cabourn Mandalay Jacket

Nigel Caborn Mandalay While we are currently awaiting our first delivery from Nigel Cabourn and the great looking Burma-inspired collection, there is one piece I didn't order and have been agonizing over for the last couple of days. Spring on it's way and there is definitely a place in my closet to break away from the greys, olives and khaki colors filling it up. I've had a bit of a hard time tracking down a good yellow spring jacket, but I think this is it. The slight fishtail on the back, light weight and nice details have it high on my spring list. The packable jacket is made from 85% cotton and 15% silk. It's made in England along with the majority of the collection and has just hit the shelves at Present in London.
