In the last year or so, New York City has emerged as a hotbed for young producers reinterpreting Chicago and Detroit flavoured dance music into something gritty and fresh. One such producer is Patricia, whose dusty take on the dance floor led to one of the more compelling releases of the year, Body Issues, which is out now on Opal Tapes as both a 12" and a cassette. The most impressive thing about Patricia's work is the sense of environment. The rhythmic and melodic elements seem to be crafted out of the same cloud of smog, creating an atmosphere that feels equally suited for a speakeasy as it does a club.
