After walking by the Steven Alan Home Shop a few times over past couple of weeks, I finally stopped in this weekend. The space is filled with publications, ceramics, various homewares, scented items and even freshly made juices. They had a large selection of pottery by Shino Takeda as well as Doug Johnston's baskets, both were stand out items in a space filled with great looking products.

Usually known for its fall weather setting, Stormy Kromer’s signature hat has been nicely re-appropriated for the spring by Steven Alan. Using a nice variety of chambray, plaid and lightweight cotton, the hat is a nice looking option that might not otherwise have been suitable for the spring. It’s more than likely available at Steven Alan shops in the US, but also at Nitty Gritty overseas.

Steven Alan for ACL & Co.

ACL&co-Steven Alan It doesn't seem like blogs these days are quite as quick to report on each other's business, but it's due time I mentioned Michael's ACL shop and the collaborations in-stock. The latest item, as many of you have probably seen, is a pair of oxford cloth shirts made by New York's Steven Alan. Whenever I've meet Michael he's sported the pocket flap on an oxford shirt so it's great to see that it came off nicely on his black and white shirts. There are a million blogs out there and a lot of them receive a lot of praise, but Michael has done well to turn ACL into something more than a blog which is why I definitely have respect for what he's doing. The shirts are another feather in his American made cap and I'm sure they'll be more good stuff to come.

Steven Alan + Sophnet

Steven Alan-Soph 1 An unexpected collaboration between Steven Alan and Sophnet has made some news recently and I'm quite into it. The mix-matched plaid shirting is something I generally like from afar and wouldn't likely wear myself, but on Steven Alan's single needle BD shirts it came together nicely. The down vest is one of my favorite items this fall and using the shirting fabric to line these vests was a nice touch, particularly to tie this small package together. Soph seem to be teaming up with a lot of the best brands these days, so as Steven Alan continues its push in Japan, the capsule collection may not be a total surprise. — Steven Alan-Soph 2

Steven Alan Deck Jacket

steven alan deck jkt Steven Alan's fall collection continues to impress with a very strong showing of USA made outerwear. The shawl collar deck jacket comes in only one colour ideal for the depths of fall – black. The waxed cotton shell is lined with wool for the usual protection against the elements of winter. The snap button closures and simple pocketing look just right of the out shell. Having a small shawl collar is also a good option as it's easy to flip up when the wind picks up, without being over the top and covering your ears. Available at Steven Alan shop as well as their online shop.

Steven Alan Vintage Hiking Jacket

steven-alan-vintage-hiking-jacketSteven Alan has really stepped up his collection this fall and the Vintage Hiking Jacket is a pretty good example. The 60/40 parka comes in three great colors - I like the green - and has all of the bells and whistles we’re looking for. It’s made in the USA, has nice leather accents on the zipper pulls, great pocketing, a nice collar and is topped off with a Woolrich lining to keep you warm. The design is nicely stripped down and the whole thing looks great. This could easily be the only jacket you buy this fall and you could probably get away with it.

Steven Alan Single Needle Plaid Shirt

stevenalan1 Sure, I could go for some fresh denim, a new pair of chinos and shoes are always good. But I'm OK wearing the same jean-shoe combo for a week straight so I find that I'm pining for a new shirt at least once a week. This plaid version from Steven Alan is one of my favourites of late and is the shirt of the week for me. The shirt has single needle seams so there's a little less stitching which is alright by me because it's a Steven Alan button-down. I usually prefer button collars but the lack of one is a nice break in routine for me. That stuff is good but I love the shirt because of the colour and the slightly boxy fit though. It's a nice enough shirt to tuck into chinos and wear with some non-leather oxfords. But that fun, spring blue is one of my favourite colours and the boxy fit means I can wear it super casually and bust out some Air Maxes if I want too. Hell, maybe if I've been cutting a rug all night I'll end up wearing it like the dude at Oak. Regardless, it's a good shirt.   stevenalan

Steven Alan Double Gauze Shirt

sa-double-gauzeI've never been a huge fan of Steven Alan's reverse stitched seams and how they fit me. I've never owned one, and probably never will. I think that he comes with some great colors and patterns but the fit just isn't right for me. I am quite interested in a lot of the outerwear, as well as these Double Gauze shirts. Coming in both a charcoal and a light heathered grey, the shirt looks like a very wearable spring piece. I particularly like the lighter color and the way the shirt has some of the western details while keeping it subtle. The shirt has the flap pockets white buttons and 3 snap cuff but it doesn't appear to have the big rounded material cut on the shoulders which I often find is a little more than I need. I'm not too familiar with a 'double gauze' shirt, or what that means even, but I would be interested in feeling up this shirt and checking the fit. snapdg_t011_318x427
