Superior Labor is definitely more known for their work with canvas, specifically with their bags. Through some of the toughest and most utilitarian totes on the market, the Japanese brand has started to make its way into the North American market via J.Crew. However, the brand does much more and produces a fair sized soft goods collection along with a variety of accessories and items like this combo dish set. The colors are great, it comes in a nice Superior Labor branded bag and they just might be the best option to have around the house or outdoors for the summer.

Superior Labor Canvas Tote

Superior Labor definitely make some of the best looking tote bags in the world. The rugged leather and hardware compliment the natural coloured canvas and well designed stamps the label uses for branding. Based in Okayama, we paid a visit to the small company in November and it was a pleasure to get to know them a little more and have a peak into their operations. It's the sort of experience that only makes you fall deeper in love with a brand. Okayama is well known for it's denim, but it's specialty hemp cottons and canvas are just as special and Superior Labor take full advantage of their local resources. This tote bag is one of my favorite models by the Japanese company as it's a little more convenient and easier to carry around on a daily basis. With an interior pocket, copper rivets, leather closure tab and tough twill handles - this is a great option for daily use through the coming spring season.

Superior Labor Canvas Pouch

I'd seen the beautiful Superior Labor canvas utility tote at J. Crew's Broadway shop in the summer and was quite impressed. I ended up shying away as I has just bought my Wm J. Mills bag, but it's been in the back of my mind since. With Tokyo on the schedule, I was looking forward to finding more canvas goods by a couple companies I'd only read about online, Superior Labor being at the top of the list. While the pick up isn't of ground breaking proportions, I was happy to come away with this camera-sized pouch. It features a few of the large tote features in a mini package. The leather pull tab on the Waldes treated zipper, special canvas that was developed locally, their great branding in stamp and woven tag form, and the dipped water proofing process. While Superior Labor often use a colour to coat the bottom of the bag, I really liked the look of the white dip. Something simple can sometimes just be exactly what you're looking for.

Superior Labor Melton Tote

To be honest, I don't know if this bag is in stock, sold out or what, I just know I love it. Superior Labor make some of the most heavy duty and beautiful tote bags in the world and this canvas/leather/Melton wool piece is a fine example. The combination of the colors of the bag and the great product shot gives me chills as the few special products I come across do. It's the kind of item I know I will own one day. Without rushing around to find a proxy, or I suppose going to J. Crew now, I know I am going to acquire a bag from Superior Labor at some point. It will definitely be something on the list for Japan come November.
